Okay so I have ALWAYS wanted to go to boarding school, and I have been looking at boarding schools in the US (I currently live in Australia) for about 2+ years now, although due to family issues, I was never able to apply. Now my "issues" have basically been resolved, I am currently in grade 11, or Junior year at my high school, and I was looking through the Andover handbook I had been sent last year and remembered how they also accepted year 12 students. Is there any other HADES that do this? Is there anyone who has gone to boarding school for only senior year? Is it worth it? It's just that every time I look at that handbook I DIE and it makes me so depressed that I'll never get a chance to experience an amazing boarding school like Deerfield or Andover and this is my last chance. Thanks :)

I’m sure you can apply for senior year in most of the HADES schools… But don’t you think that repeating junior year would be a better idea, since you’ve always wanted to experience what it’s like to be in a boarding school? PG would be another option for you, a lot of international kids do that. In my opinion, it would be very stressful for you to apply to college right after transitioning from another country. I’m entering a HADES school as a junior this year, and I still wish I had a chance to apply earlier.

Im sorry, but you cant do it, since the admission cycle for 12th grade is over. You would have to apply next year, when you will be in 12th grade. Also the majority of schools that accept 12th graders do so for athletic reasons.

mhmm: I know that if I were to apply I would get my acceptance/rejection letters once I had started grade 12 (duh I do my research), and if I were accepted, I still might not end up going. I am just doing this to get as many amazing opportunities as possible. I also have a lot to offer athletically, so I don’t think that would be a problem :)

Umm, you’re not listening. You’re in 11th grade now. Admissions cycles for senior year closed in January. Unless you are applying NOW for a school with rolling admissions, you’re too late. The slots for seniors even during a regular cycle are infinitesimally small.

You could apply in the fall for a PG year - but unless you’re a jock being scouted, or a full pay, that’s unlikely as well.

If you are really interested, ask the school asap. If they say no, then you’re done. If they say yes, then you get busy with whatever they want to see. I had luck once calling a school (not Andover) in July for a Sept slot.

If Australian is like NZ, their school year runs Jan - Dec.
Ilovethattree has just started his junior year.

If you are open to schools other than D and A, you could look at those with rolling admissions and apply for a grade 11 spot. IF they have any of those spots available.
That would be my try. You may not go to D or A, but the other schools are equally as wonderful in terms of what you will learn not only academically but from all the other unique aspects of boarding school.

Otherwise, I’d hang on for a PG year. Good Luck!

Oops sorry I guess I misunderstood you a little bit. I take my words back, about junior repeat… But if Ilovethattree’s junior year has just begun, then s/he could apply for senior year, fall 2012, right? Of course that would mean that Ilovethattree would have to miss some time, but HADES is definitely worth it. Contact the schools as early as you can, to see what they think is the best thing for you to do at the moment.
Don’t give up your hopes about boarding schools, especially if you are a strong athlete! Best of luck!
