Applying for college after a gap year

I would like to ask for some help and information about applying for college after a gap year.
I graduated from high school 2013 May.
I've applied for SDSU and got rejected, that's the school I wanted to go to
For the past half year, I've been working as an intern in a company and took some classes at a community college as well.
Can someone give me some opinions and thoughts on this? Should I wait for another year then apply for the 2015~2016 academic year? Or is the 2014~2015 school year the one I should apply for? When I'm filling in my application form should I state graduating from high school or transfer with college credit?

P.S My college credit are all not transferable to UC/CSU

Thanks for all your help!

You need to find some colleges besides one that already rejected you to apply to so you have some choices. There are thousands of colleges in the US, you can certainly find more than one (that didn’t want you last time you asked) that will give you a good education and help you move forward on your chosen career path.

I am not sure about the credit situation in this particular case; at many colleges you are considered a transfer student if you take any CC classes after high school graduation. You would have to look at each college’s admissions page to understand what that college expects, and call admissions if you need more information. I also think that some California state universities will only accept a transfer student once you have 60 or more transferable credits, so that may preclude you from applying again to SDSU until you reach that point.

You are rather late to be thinking about this now. Have you taken the SAT yet? Any subject tests? Have you got any letters of recommendation lined up from your high school teachers? jAre you full-pay or do you need financial aid? What schools are you thinking about applying to?

If you are just now starting down this track, you might still be able to get admitted to schools with late application deadlines - but the majority have deadlines in the first week or two of January, which means you may have to wait to apply at the end of 2014 for the 2015-2016 calendar year. You are also coming very late to the table if you need financial aid.

Yes I have taken the SAT and couple subject tests. I have not gotten any letter of rec from my high school teachers. Will college still accept those even if I graduated from high school already? I will be able to pay for my own admission. I’m aiming for schools with deadline after 1/15 if possible, and I’m still doing some research.

SDSU won’t work this year:

[San Diego State University | Admissions](<a href=“Transfer Students | SDSU”>Transfer Students | SDSU)

If you want to attend a college this coming year you need to look at others. Try the college search engine available on the CC main page.

If you like San Diego, look at University of San Diego.
However, a “gap year” means taking ZERO college courses. Since you took community college classes, if you want to apply to California public universities, you need to wait until next year (the semester you’d be enrolled in your 60th credit or more).
You may want to check what the policy is at St Mary’s of California, Whittier, Santa Clara, USan Francisco - sometimes, if you have fewer than 30 credits, a private college will consider you like a freshman.

You should go to see your CC adviser or the transfer adviser if you have a separate one to plan out a strategy. Don’t delay, you have already missed some opportunities. You aren’t on a gap year if you are taking CC classes, you are an enrolled student.
