Transfer to UC after one/gap year?

Hey guys, I have a question regarding UC transfer procedures.

I graduated from high school this past spring and am currently enrolled at a community college to begin in the fall. I applied to one UC during my senior year of high school, but I didn't get in.

I am aware that, in order to transfer, UC requires that you complete 60 units, with IGETC and major prereqs highly recommended. In my opinion, this is quite a stretch.

So here's my question(s): (1) Am I allowed to reapply for Freshman Admission in the fall? (2) Does already having applied last year disqualify me in any way? (3) Will I be allowed to attend community college in the fall and spring and still apply as a freshman? (4) Would I be able to get credit for whatever classes I took during this year? (5) If so, would that be enough to get me up to sophomore standing?

My reason for wanting to do this is that the community college in my hometown is WAY over crowded and it would probably take several (3-4) years for me to finish 60 units, and I don't want to lose my drive to study.

Please help? Thank you!

Once you take even 1 college class, you can’t apply to a UC as a freshman. If you weren’t accepted this year, you probably won’t be accepted if you reapply as a freshman. Your best option is community college until you meet the requirements, then apply as a transfer.

@2016Candles‌ then how come people were saying to send both your highschool transcripts and college transcripts if you have any when applying as a freshman? O:

You graduated, you can’t apply as a freshman.

Some HS students take college classes, but they’re in HS, so it’s not the same thing. Once HS is over, everything changes.

The reason they were probably saying that is because if you take college classes during high school, you’re allowed to apply as a freshmen. But as the others have said, if you take them once you have graduated, you’re not allowed to.

If you think it’s going to take you forever to complete the requirements, don’t be discouraged. Remember you can apply after only one year, and complete the other half of the requirements after applying. If you can’t get enough classes at your local community college, I would recommend taking some online classes as well, from another community college. Online classes count just the same as regular classes, and would allow you to finish in two years.

Community college might not sound like an attractive option, but it’s actually pretty good. Most people would tell you that transferring is actually easier than applying as a freshmen, which I agree with.

You have a better chance of gaining admission to the UC’s coming from a California Community College. By that time, you will know what you want to really major in and you will have saved some money and brought up a decent GPA. Continue the CC route and then transfer in.

actually you are allowed to take college classes the summer immediately after HS graduation and still enter as a freshman. See <a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors;

Stretch or not, its what you’re going to have to do if you want to enter a UC.
