Hey, so I’m a sophomore who’s going to be applying to college around this time next year. I live in the suburbs of Philly and have some questions about my chances of getting into my dream school. I really want to go to Villanova University, however it’s very selective and I’m nervous about not getting in. I have a few safety schools in mind (Ursinus College, University Of Scranton, & Gwynedd Mercy University) but VU is the school I’m aiming for. I’m an aspiring premed student and if I get in, hope to major in CBN (cognitive & behavioral neuroscience) along with Psychology. I attend a virtual high school that doesn’t calculate class rank, so I’m a bit nervous if that would affect my application. Here’s a backround of my academic accomplishments…
I have a current GPA of 3.9 and I’m taking a few AP classes this year. I have a good relationship with my teachers and counselor so that hopeful they’ll write me good letters of rec, and I started my own blogging business about a year ago (which Ill try to mention in an essay), I’m currently studying for the SATs so that I’ll have enough time to understand the material, and I started a couple of clubs at my school. Any advice on what else I can do or if I’m missing something? It would really be appreciated!
Do what is of interest to you.
Earn top grades in your classes & do well on the SAT.
Most schools like applicants to have some volunteer work or public service activities.
Your academics are great and you will find a home at Nova or otherwise. Make sure you are well rounded beyond school but academically it sounds like you’re doing a great job.
No need to be nervous and don’t fall in love with anywhere - just in case. You might get in but get a great scholarship elsewhere.
Be the best, well rounded you and you’ll be fine. You’re too early to worry
Are you graduating as a Junior? Will you have met the course requirements of the colleges of interest (not to mention state/local HS graduation requirements)”

By graduation, will you have taken:
- 4 years of English (including some honors, Dual Enrollment, or AP)
- 4 years of History/Social science (including US history and World or European history, and perhaps Econ/Gov)
- Foreign language through level 3, 4 or AP
- Math through precalculus or calculus
- Biology, chemistry, physics, + 1 AP science
- some courses that reflect your personal academic interests, be they music or CS programming or doubling up in a subject…
Have you discussed budget with your parents? What can they afford, out of pocket (=from current income and savings)?
Have they run the NPC on Villanova and told you that the net price VU spit out for them , is affordable?
