well Columbia has one too. It was because someone drowned and the family wanted CU to make sure everyone can swim so no one drowns again. so i think cornell shares the same sentiments

@Castiel
Unfortunately for me, Chemistry is the only thing that I’m good at. My math and english are bad. I dunno how I’m gonna be able to do PChem with higher levels of math…

How is Gen Chem at Cornell? I wonder how I rank with the students there. I got an award for Chemistry for having the highest grade in the Fall semester for Gen Chem. Hopefully that’ll help me in the admissions…

They had an award for the highest grade? wow nice. I should sit with you during lectures lol. I always sit in the front row or first couple of rows, I would laugh if i know you in real life

Haha I sit in the front too, like right in front of Halpin.

ironic: I read on CALS website that you can have 1 semester of english and a 2nd semester of english or public speaking…correct? That is what I ended up doing

haha i sent you a PM. All the NYU kids should meet up!

I am just curious. Is there a specific reason for transferring from NYU? Obviously Cornell is Cornell but I am just curious :)

Haha yeah I guess I am freaking out over nothing. Maybe I should tell them I’m not in the honors program though.
I keep checking the mailbox every 10 minutes lol

@madirocks: haha well I don’t know about the others, but my reasons are that NYU is too large sometimes. Koldsoup will tell you we have 600+ people in our chemistry class, but thats fine since professor is good, we have PTE’s, and recitations.

But i also have 600+ people in my biology class and we have no recitations or clinics! It is my major and I feel I am not getting enough opportunities to learn. Plus we get new professors every 2 weeks (professors come in depending on the subject we are doing now, i.e. microbio is with an accomplished microbiology prof) Its hard to keep track of who’s who and I don’t think its fair.

On the social side of things there are no frats! i find it hard to find a good party and stuff hahah. We have dorm parties but they are just like 5 people max (as much as you can fit in a dorm lol).

Other than that NYU is pretty good. I got a research opportunity, life in the city, a lot of friends (NYU is very social, but alas not frats), and an extremely challenging courseload.

but thats why im transferring out, i have more reasons for why cornell (even if nyu was perfect i would still transfer because i have loved it forever!)

Guys, I know this is kinda off-topic. I know NYU is def the more happening school but I was wondering in terms of prestige, would you say that U-Michigan has more prestige than NYU or vice versa? I was kind of making some plans so advice/insights would be beneficial.

@boyss: I am obviously biased lol, but I think NYU is way more prestigious than U-Mich. I mean its tisch school of the arts is number 1 in the country. Furthermore, its number one in applied math. And its philosophy department is also one in the country.

The stern school of business is also ranked 4th best by US News, and CAS has like a sub 20% acceptance rate.

Plus the fact its in NYC means a lot more research opportunties (medicine, my bio lab prof gave us a job research opportunity at nyu med school) and there are internship and job opportunities(business).

And if your into art/drama, nyc is unbeatable with its proximity to broadway etc.

Ha. yea. The reason why I’m asking is because according to US News and other major ranking systems, it, sadly, doesn’t fare too well. But, I’m doing Political Sci and Communications. If I don’t get into Cornell, was thinking where I should go.

^haha well 1.) you will get into Cornell!

and 2.) if your interested in poli sci and comm, i recommend nyu! My roomie is a comm major, and he loves it.

also nyc is home to the United Nations and thats more international relations, but i think its cool to be so close to something like that haha.

And ply sci? do you want to go to law school? because i think NYU has like the 5th best law school in the country.

but for undergrad i mean there are opportunites everywhere to work or intern at law firms, but idk much about poly sci at nyu

My primary reason for Cornell is that Cornell has sort of always been my dream. I was really disappointed when i didn’t get accepted the first time. Another reason of mine is that I’m a commuter and I’ve lived in NYC my whole life so the whole city life that appeals to everyone is rather dull to me. I guess it’s that campus life that I’m looking for. But once again, Cornell is Cornell :D

Its funny how I am right around the corner from many of you. I am at Baruch LOL

Well - to break up this NYC party - I am from the middle of the country. Good ole red-state, midwestern-er.
Yes, it’s kind of boring.

Take that.

Yea. Boring ( capital B) lol j/k

@koldsoup - I mirror your reasons, almost exactly.

Except, I’m not in NYC. But in a different large city. And it gets old, fast.

I would just like to say that I envy all who have almost finished their semester, or have almost finished b/c another month and a half is tooo long for me >:-s

Well to be fair, cunys started later and your spring break was longer by a day lol
But i heard you gotta make up the snow days… which is just terrible
