applying for housing question?

Just a quick question, I live in Brooklyn (a 30 minute train ride away from nyu) and I don't plan on applying for housing. I am however applying for many scholarships that will provide full rides. If by some miraculous crazy chance, I get one of these scholarships, I would like to dorm at NYU because I mean c'mon. Union Square? Living in that area is definitely a huge part of the NYU experience, and I'd like to get the most I can out if I get into NYU (a lot of "ifs", I know)

So basically, should I say I want housing now, and then later refuse it? Or say I don't want housing now and then request for it later? Will it be too late if I request for it after I find out about the scholarships?

Please, don't respond saying that I'm greedy or that I don't have to apply for housing because I live so close. I'm sure you would be curious too if you were in my position.

Thanks! :)

I think you have to put a deposit for housing (300 dolalrs) that is nonrefundable. That part you will not get back but you can always back out of housing and decide to commute. You would just waste 300 dollars lol.
