Applying for Winter from UWB - Chance me

was wondering who else is applying and if they have any information about the transferring volume for winter.
also, chance me if you have the time.

From my understanding there are less people applying in the winter than AUT and SUM, so statistically there should be more variation in the quality of applicants.
What are your guys' thoughts?

Also, here is what im lookin at.
I go to a 4yr uni without my major.
I am applying to UWS for chemistry. (should i tell them I wanna do prepharmacy?)
Chemistry is a competitive major (the hell does that even mean?)

after running DARS this is what the bottom of the page said for chem BS.

Transfer GPA: 3.79 GPA
Chemistry GPA, transfer courses: 3.83 GPA

Ive only attended 1 year at UWB and earned 45 credits first year.
I finished the gen chem sequence and am starting ochem in the fall.
I earned 20 credits from AP bio and chem in HS.

I did research this summer for extra credits during the fall which i wrote about in my personal statement. Also wrote about being homeless in highschool (true story bro), and I am a white male.

Not sending ACT scores to UWS.

Was rejected my senior year. didnt have that strong of a personal statement, HS GPA of 3.85? perfect A's after i messed it up freshman year.
bad ACT score.

I had a friend who went to uw-bothell and tried desperately to get into uw-seattle. He applied 4 times and got rejected each time. His GPA each quarter hovered around 3.78-3.81. He even got accepted into the department he wanted at uw-seattle and they rejected him. He even took classees at uw-seattle while attending uw-bothell to prep for his hope to be major ith good grades.

I honestly don’t know why they wouldn’t take him…only admissions would know (he asked, they wouldn’t say.) The only thing I do know is, it’s very hard to transfer from one four year university to another. It’s easier to get in through community college as far as transferring goes then uw bothell.

Now this doesn’t mean you won’t get accepted. But I would be realistic so that if you get in, then that’s great. But if you don’t, you won’t be too upset. It was hard seeing my friend getting rejected (repeatedly).

As far as transferring winter quarter…yes less people apply, but there are much less slots open. I think there will be the same variety of applicants…just smaller number and less slots open. (I transferred winter quarter fine, but i came from a community college with a 3.92 gpa and an AA)

So honestly, because of my friends puzzling experience and because I know they don’t like transfers from another 4 year…I can’t honestly say what your odds are. If your GPA were lower, I’d say no way. With your current gpa and with what I’ve seen …i’d have to say 50/50

Hmmm, well thank you for your honest and quick response.

I stressed in my personal statement that If i did not gain admissions to UWS, I would not have classes to take to get my degree, and this is a common thing I hear UWB kids get rejected for “you were not deficient in any areas”.

My girlfriend was denied admissions to UWS from UWB (econ major, 3.85 gpa, almost perfect SAT, international). I convinced her to appeal the decision and she got in.

Looks like I will be filling out a WSU application once again.

cant afford to go anywhere else out of state.

Maybe I should retake the SAT/ACT?
I scored rather low average my senior year with a 26 composite on ACT, however I saved up a bunch of money and got re diagnosed for my learning disabilities and will receive accommodations now (extra time).

I would expect to get something over 30-32ish

Yeah, I don’t know if my friend mentioned it in his personal essay or not…but the major he wanted at uw-seattle wasn’t even offered in bothell, and the classes he took at uw-seattle were for the major. After the last rejection, he realized that he was going to have to change course and major in something else at uw-seattle.

Very frustrating. Yeah I told him to appeal…he said that when he called admissions to find out why he was denied (and they wouldn’t say) he asked about appealing…and they told him only 4% get in off of appeal anyways. My thought on appeals though is…so what about odds…if you want in bad enough it’s worth trying.

Honestly I wouldn’t bother retaking the sat/act…i’m not sure they’ll put much weight into it since you’ve taken a fair amount of college courses.

If they reject you, i would suggest you appeal as well. You never know. It’s a tough situation…I think you should get in, but they certainly don’t like to move qualified bothell people to seattle it seems. :frowning:

I wonder if there are any scholarships only offered at uw-seattle that you could get. that would be a pretty compelling reason for them to let you in to uw seattle.

Anyways for whatever it’s worth it…i do hope you get in, i do think you deserve to

just got in today.
thanks for the support.

Congratulations! I know that last year’s acceptance rate for transfers from four year colleges was around 10% or so.

Since you transferred from UWB, make sure that you’re certain as to what classes UWS will recognize and which they won’t. I’ve had an important class at UWB accepted as a rough equivalent of another class at UWS, but the admissions committee didn’t think highly of it and no one told me that my chances were being hindered (despite talking to advisers multiple times) until it was rather late.

Also, I’ve experienced problems when registering for classes that had calculus courses (MATH 124/125/126) as Seattle’s system didn’t recognize the Bothell calculus courses as equivalent to their Seattle courses, so I had to get add codes. I don’t know if that’s been fixed yet or not.

Thanks.
I took classes at UWB with this in mind and actually made a big fuss on campus about the advisers telling students to take certain classes which were not recognized by the main campus. (for example BIS 315 - understanding statistics is not a real stats class lol).
Hopefully everything transfers smoothly. Ill post on here if anything doesnt.

As for the math transfer disconnect, I am awhare of this and my xgirlfriend actually experienced this same problem this autumn quarter. I expect that it has not yet been resolved.

I think im done with math though… still considering a math/biochem double major if i dont get into pharm school right away. we will see.
