<p>If your tourist visa is valid until you’d start classes and you are in good standing, you can file a form to change your non-immigrant status to a student visa. However, this process can take 3-6 months and you are not allowed to start classes until the change is approved. It’s usually faster to leave the US and apply for a new visa at a consulate abroad.</p>

Even if you were willing to leave the US for your visa application, you may not have enough time to start classes this fall.
