Applying from Abroad!?

So I am From Lebanon and I'm currently in US as a tourist using my tourist visa but, during my stay I became interested in attending College here.I wanted to know is it possible to Apply and attend College while in the US,and what Visa procedures must I undergo?Do I need to switch visa? Or do I have to apply from Home? Plz help Thankssss

If your tourist visa is valid until you’d start classes and you are in good standing, you can file a form to change your non-immigrant status to a student visa. However, this process can take 3-6 months and you are not allowed to start classes until the change is approved. It’s usually faster to leave the US and apply for a new visa at a consulate abroad.

If you want to apply to college and change status from within the US, the earliest you could hope to enroll is January 2015. Even if you were willing to leave the US for your visa application, you may not have enough time to start classes this fall. Please note that selective colleges need your application for admission 6-10 months before your desired start date. Non-selective colleges are more flexible, but applying to college and getting a new visa within 1-2 months (for enrollment in the fall term) would be a close call nonetheless.
