Applying in 10th grade

Last year I got rejected at Middlesex. I took it pretty hard.

But now I'm off to a fresh start, everything is in my favor except for one thing...

It's 10th grade. What are your views and experiences about applying for 10th grade.

I here it's harder to get accepted as well.

Please respond ASAP

I was waitlisted everywhere last year, and applied again this year as a 10th grader. It was NOT harder. the only tricky part was that some of the essay questions were the same as last years and i had to put a new spin on things so they weren’t identical to my old essays. But i was an expert the second year and im going to a great school this fall! the admission officers like to see people who are really interested in their school, and applying twice shows commitment. In my experience, applying again is wayy easier. and at a lot of schools it can be easier to get in, especially if you were waitlisted.

School reserve lots of spots for incoming 10th graders; sometimes the class size increases by a third. However the bulk of admissions come in for 9th, so you might think of 10th grade application as being to your advantage.

You have a year to get your GPA up, do some knock your socks off ECs, and study for the SSAT. Although this next year’s pressure will be intense, you will grow as a person and as a student from the effort. Become the superstar that you know in your heart you really can be.

I applied as a 10th grader and honestly I think because of that I had an easier time getting in. I was accepted at SPS and Choate and waitlisted at Groton.

I think it was easier because even though I had better grades in midddle school than my freshman year, the schools could see more of what I had done and a more mature side. My friend applied to something like 15 schools as a freshman, not even as great schools–>more like 2nd tier stuff (ex. pennington, brooks, blair…) and she was denied or waitlisted at most of these schools.

you might as well try again, it won’t hurt.

Some schools will tell you reason of their rejection for 9th grade if you call and ask. Often it is that they feel “you are too young” and they want you to apply the following year.

Thanks…

Has anyone else had an easier time. I’m thinking of Middlesex again, Hotchkiss, St. Marks, Governors, and Peddie
