i'm applying through the common app online for nyu. i know the supplement has to be submitted online but do the teacher recs and counselor form have to be too? what does the invite button do? i'm just afraid if i invite them and they have to fill out all the forms by hand and mail them or something that they'll be mad because i'm supposed to fill out the top/address envelopes, ya know? also with teacher recs, do you have to invite them all before you decide all the schools you're applying to or can you add recs from others schools? Haha sorry i know this is a lot of questions but my school counselor had no clue!

How does your counselor not know how it works? I don’t think it’s that hard, just have them physically mail them. In my school we asked the teachers for the recommendations, handed them a common app form + any other info about us, gave them stamped envelopes, and they handled sending out the recs (whereas our counselors handled sending out counselor recs + transcripts). I never did any inviting thing.

if you press the invite button, your counselor/teacher will be sent an email on how to fill out the recommendation form. It’ll all be online. They won’t have to go through the whole mailing in envelopes deal.
Once your counselor/teacher submits in their recommendations, it’ll be saved in your account, not just for one school application. So when you’re submitting in applications, you can decide which recommendations to attach to your application. You don’t have to decide all the schools you’re going to apply to before you invite the teachers/counselor.
