<p>I am currently applying to both the United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy. I have LOAs for both and a nomination to West Point. West Point is my first choice, but I still want to get accepted to Navy. When applying for nominations I checked West Point as #1 every time. </p>

<p>If WP is #1 and you have an LOA and nom, you are going to get the appt…but if your ego requires both, call your MOC and ask if there’s any room to be added to the slate. It’s kind of a waste, and takes away an opportunity for someone else if you know you are only going to turn it down. The WP appointment folder is much nicer, anyway!</p>
<p>Have you cleared DodMERB yet? If not, wait. The waiver criteria for each is not the same.</p>
<p>Two great choices. You have worked hard and earned them. Take advantage of it. No need whatsoever to make a decision until the notification deadline in May. The school of your second choice will then still be able to award an appointment to the next most qualified, even in your congressional district. He was second and doesn’t deserve the early notification which you earned. One of the few times in your life, it doesn’t hurt to be selfish. Make darn sure of your decision.</p>
<p>Mombee, son is facing similar issue now – LOA for USMA, also applying for USNA<but probably has to choose for upcoming nomination deadline. Also dealing with need for medical waiver; can you direct me to a source for specifics on the different standards for each of the two?</p>

The respective school’s catalogs would be a good starting place. My recommendation would be not to make a decision based on medical concerns but on what one truly wants to do. Having a choice is different than not attempting something. Things have a way of sorting themselves out for the best.</p>
<p>Thanks mombee for your input. I don’t want to be greedy about trying to get into both but I do feel I have earned the right to choose. Besides, the Marines is not that different from the army. I have been told that it ultimately comes down to which you want more, and I feel that I am at the point when I have come to choose.</p>
