I’m a junior in high school. My high school is extremely big with 1,000 people per class. A majority of my school goes to IU. I’ve been told by just about everyone that I have a chance to get into IUB but my counselor told me I should be looking into easier colleges. I’m very hard working and the only place I am looking to go is IU. It’s my number one and only choice.
White female from Indiana
2.9 GPA honor roll student
Won state dance championship my freshmen year.
I work 20-30 hours a week
Part of hunger drive, tutoring, mentoring, varsity dance all three years, bbbs, and I work with the elementary school kids as my job.
I want to go into education and I cadet teach.
I’m in AP/honors classes.
All A’s and B’s on my report card with one or two C’s.
Is my application even worth the iu admissions to read?
How do you get a 2.9 with all A and B and only a couple Cs? doesn’t seem quite right. Sure you should apply, but follow your adviser and find some other ones too. He would know better than anyone else here if you have a chance and he is telling you that you need backup. So make a plan.
How seriously are you intent on getting admitted to IU-Bloomington? Then do the following: bear down on your GPA and ACT test prep. Shed everything else that you can (hunger drive, tutoring others (you should get some tutoring), your part time job, elementary school kids, etc). Cut EVERYTHING that you can that doesn’t provide a lift for you or is truly are enjoyable for you. Can you cut your job hours down to 10 per week? Is this money essential for you and/or your family? Your GPA and ACT will be the ONLY things that will get you in or keep you out. Knock out as close to a 4.0 this semester and the next. Get a high 20s or 30+ on your ACT. Nothing else will matter to IU. Otherwise, you should listen to your GC and consider other affordable Indiana colleges.
