Chances for in-state?

Going to be a senior next year, and never really thought getting into IU would be a problem for me, but the stats I'm seeing on various websites has me rethinking that...

white female, first generation college student
3.3 unweighted GPA
1250/1840 SAT (taking it again in the fall, I think I can bring it up)
might take the ACT? Haven't decided...

2 AP's so far (Art History and English) and I'm taking 2 more next year, took the AP Art History exam in the spring and think I did well (probably a 4)

Not much in the way of ECs. Did marching band for a year, debate for a year.

I have taken a lot of electives, though. I don't even know if that matters, but I've been in art classes every semester since 9th grade.

What mostly worries me is that I got 2 C+'s second semester this year, and I know colleges care about your junior year a lot.

I also didn't go to school at all for a year due to really personal circumstances, but I'm still not sure how it will even look on my transcript or how any of that will work. I haven't decided if it's something I want to explain in my application...

I know that my GPA is on the low side for IU, but what really worries me is that my ECs are basically non-existent, I faltered during my junior year, and of course, the issue of me not attending for a year. I know I'm below average, but how far?

I think you should be okay because your SAT is above average. Does your school put weighted GPA on your transcript? If so, that will help. Apply early!

You should be okay, especially if the last two school years (sophomore and junior year) averages are better than your freshman year–and if you took at least 2 to 3 year long honors or AP courses. Also, I agree that the SAT you have should help you out a lot.
