Applying to more than one program?

I have already been accepted as a transfer to CLA, but I do not think I really knew what I was doing when I applied. I have 60 credit hours and I was still undecided but I have taken a lot of classes that would qualify in CEHD, for majors like Sports Management or Recreation, Park & Leisure Studies. I also already paid to confirm my enrollment in CLA. Is it possible to also apply for one of those CEHD programs and still keep my enrollment in CLA if I do no get in?

I would call and double check with them, but I doubt you will be able to change majors right at this moment. However, you should be able to transfer from the CEHD to CLA after taking some classes that are required. It should be pretty easy to transfer within the University. But again, I would call admissions and ask if you can be put on a waitlist or something. Good luck!

“transfer from the CEHD to CLA”, That confused me? I think I will call admissions either way, but I don’t think I clarified that I did not transfer colleges within the school, I am transferring from MNSU, and I am also not taking any classes this semester.

Yeah, I should have made myself more clear, sorry for that. Anyway, if they do not let you change from CLA to CEHD, then you still have another option. You would have to start taking classes toward the major in the CEHD, and transfer from CLA to CEHD in the future. That means you would have to stay in the CLA for a semester or two, but then apply (Within the U of M) to the CEHD. The process is generally a little more complicated than applying from outside of the univesrity, but it can be done.

Just click on the admission requirement tab and it will give you most of the information you need. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! I called the office of admissions today and they were able to add CEHD as my #1 choice. She had someone else call me later, I think she was a transfer counselor from CLA, and she said that I just needed to submit the supplemental application for CEHD, which I did today, and that if I am not admitted to CEHD I will still have my admission to CLA. The big issue for me in CLA is the requirements say, “Students with 60 or more credits can only be admitted to CLA if they indicate a CLA major and plan to complete a bachelor’s degree in CLA.” I have exactly 60 credits so that makes me think that if I am not accepted to CEHD for the fall, I will not be able to in the future?

Yeah, I definitely see your predicament. Unfortunately, my advice to you, if you do not get into CEHD for some reason, would be to withdraw from the university and reapply next semester. Don’t choose to stay here and study something you will hate for the rest of your life. Of course, this is assuming you won’t get in, but I say stay positive! Good luck!

I was a little worried before because there was no confirmation of any of this, but now CEHD is on my application tracker! Do you think I can get in, my gpa is 3.49, here are the requirements. I just wanted to make sure by getting someone else’s opinion, where it says, “Required coursework for U of M-Twin Cities students” that is just for someone transferring within the school like from CLA to CEHD right and not for me? The reason I am confused is because next to community and public health it says, “(for current U of M student only)” do you think that is just for student at other U of M campuses?

2.0 minimum GPA (2.75 GPA is strongly prefered)
60 credits completed or in progress

Required coursework for U of M-Twin Cities students
Survey of kinesiology, recreation, and sport (KIN 1871)
Introduction to sport management (SMGT 1701)
Computer literacy and problem solving (PSTL 1571)

Coursework listed below for all students
All Students
Although not required prior to admission, strong applicants will have the following coursework completed or in progress:

Introduction to sociology
General psychology
Public speaking
Community and public health (for current U of M student only)
3 PE courses
Most liberal education requirements (generals)

I have taken all of these, but only 1 PE course, and I think I have most of the liberal generals. I have also taken intro to sports management, but I’m not sure if that would make a difference getting in since I think that is just for current U of M-Twin Cities students.

When I was wrighting my other messages, I completely blanked that you are a transfer student. The deadline for Fall should be coming up, but it is definitely not passed (I know you know this lol). Originally I thought the odds of getting in were slim to none, but now that I know you are within the deadline, you have a great chance of getting in.

Yes, the required coursework that is for U of M students refers to inside the university, but at a different college. I am surprised they do not require you to take specific courses before admission, but it looks like they only recommend it. As long as you have a good portion of those courses fullfilled, I would say you should have no problem getting in. Let me know what happens!

Thanks, I will!

my application tracker now says, “We have forwarded your application to the college for review. If you have questions about the status of your application, please contact the Col of Educ/Human Development directly.” Is this good, bad, nothing? Been like that since Monday.

From what I’ve been told, that means just that lol. Some of the colleges aren’t making decisions yet. I applied to the College of Design and I know they aren’t even looking at applications until March 1. So that could be the case for you too. It just basically means the right college has your application, but it hasn’t been looked at yet. Its a step in the right direction.

lol don’t worry tlong. funny thing is when i transferred, my tracker for cehd said the same thing even after a month of already being accepted. when a decision is made on your app, one of the cehd counselors sends a personal email to you anyways, that was how I found out.

Alright, good to know! I heard so quick from CLA, so I am hoping for the same with CEHD. It’s been almost 2 weeks, I heard about 3 weeks after I got everything in for CLA. But now I see that they might do things differently, so I guess I will just have to wait patiently to find out lol

I got into sport management!!!
