I have a GPA of 3.75 and ACT of a 22 after I retook it (which was a 17 at first).
My first choice was Nursing in CLA but I called an Admissions Counselor and he changed it on December 12th to Human Resource Management in CEHD and my 2nd choice being Retail Marketing in CLA. I’m in EC activities but now my application tracker is saying this since DECEMBER 15th…!
“Your change of college request has been received. We are currently reviewing your application and we will provide you with a decision as soon as possible.”
I’m Somali/African American if that helps me in anyway and I’m also the first generation student. I have done PSEO for a semester which I got A’s in those 3 classes.
I really want an honest and helpful review! When will I hear back??
@collegeChickk Honestly, your 22 score on the ACT is only marginally above the national average score for all test takers and it will hinder your chances for admission. CLA is a long shot, based on the fact that only 5% of incoming 2014 freshmen admitted had ACT scores below 24. Your chances for admission are better, but not great, for admission to CEHD where 29% of incoming 2014 freshmen scored less than 24. That said, UMN is probably a reach school for you, and admission to either college is unlikely. If admission is denied, you might want to consider enrolling at another school and applying to UMN in a year or two as a transfer student. In that case, your college course grades will be much more of an important determinant for admission than past ACT scores.
Agree with everything that @chucktaylor1 says. First gen, and Somali/AA are positives- worth applying to, but a reach.
Have you considered UMD or a local community college? You can get your general requirements done, and get accepted as an upper division student at the U. Minnesota community colleges have transfer agreements with the U that you should investigate.
If you don’t get accepted directly into Minnesota, a transfer from one of those schools may be your best path.
I hope you hear good news. I wanted to point out that your advisor has led you to apply to the majors in CEHD and the College of Design (not the College of Liberal Arts). That retail major is in the College of Design. If you really want nursing as a major, you would be better off looking at other universities.
Thank you for your insight. I know students who have been accepted with less credentials than me. I really do hope I hear good news.
@khidhala I haven’t really applied to other schools because I really think that I might get into the U if not I will go to a community college. I’m really worried
I also think you might get into the U, but not for nursing. You need to decide how important that major is to you. Retail merchandising is a very different career. Good luck!!!
