Applying to mostly California schools despite the drought?

I’m a student who is from California but is not currently residing there. I was planning on returning there for college, but with the severity of the current drought I am starting to have second thoughts.

Will the drought greatly affect college campuses? Should I apply to more colleges elsewhere?

The drought is not going to make any difference in your college experience.

No one is dying of thirst yet. Everyone is trying to conserve: reduction in shower times, letting lawns go brown. One less student applying to California schools is not going to change the dynamics of the applications.

Nope, no difference. Maybe some grassy areas will be a little less green and some dorms might have signs encouraging students to take shorter showers, but nothing major will change.

My concern is how bad it might get in the future. Right now people aren’t dying of thirst, but I’m worried it may get bad enough to where people ARE dying of thirst.

^ By the time it gets that bad, we will have figured out the desalination plant issue. Probably earlier than that. No worries.

You seem to overthink this problem. If it gets worse you just move back to your original state.

Wow are you watching Fox news or something? This is one of the silliest questions I’ve seen here. There’s plenty of water for the schools. Grass may turn brown but big deal. Even for the future. This happens every few years and everything works out fine. It’s never gotten any worse than needing to flush a little less, shower a little shorter, stop washing your car in the street, and stop watering your lawn. Yes it’s a concern, especially for farmers, but won’t affect you at all. If you are not that into going to a CA school that you’d give them up for this, maybe you are just looking for an excuse.

If you do not feel comfortable with the drought maybe you should rethink your schools choice.

I agree, we have had restrictions in years past with water. My kids who live in CA are very concerned about the drought, that is totally noble. But truly we borrow water here in CA and always figure out a way, concern yourself with what school is best for you.

Plz bring your own water…jk it shouldn’t effect your decision as said previously

Water laws make it so that if it ever were to get that bad (it won’t), Nevadans and Arizonans would be the ones dying first, not Californians. Remember that the overwhelming majority of water is used for agricultural purposes, and it will be a cold day in heck before Sacramento lets Californians go truly thirsty.
