My best friend and I both recently (seperately) visited Columbia and completely fell in love with the school. We are both planning on applying (probably ED). Obviously, Columbia is very selective and there is a really good chance that we will both get rejected but (as we are both very strong applicants) there is also a chance that one of us gets in and the other does not. Any suggestions on how we should deal with the inevitable awkwardness and tension that will come with ED decisions? Also, any other general advice on how to deal with college rejection would be appreciated! Thanks
Just to let you know, the word is actually spelled ‘rejection’. I only point this out because you are obviously smart if you are applying to Columbia.
Thanks. Spelling never was my strong suit. Fortunately, I’m planning on majoring in a STEM subject
Neither of you will be the reason that the other does not get in.
My daughter worried about her best friend also applying to Yale. They both got in.
You need to understand that you will both be evaluated on your merits as individuals. Columbia can accept both of you, one of you, or neither of you. The fact that both are applying won’t impact your individual decision.
It’s also “separately”
Well, good thing you both know now because that gives you PLENTY of time to process it. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst and get used to the idea between now and December.
Be sure to spellcheck your essay! Hope it works out for you and your friend.
