Applying to transfer as a junior with 2.84 GPA

The requirements to considered as a junior transfer are at least 60 credits and at least a 2.8 GPA. After i finish my summer classes I will be sitting at a 2.84 GPA with 60 credits. I plan to apply for spring 2013. Even though I'm just over the bare minimum, do I have much of a chance to be accepted? Do transfers generally have an easier time getting in as long as they meet these minimums?

Anyone have any input?

Hitting that minimum gpa is definitely a good sign for admission but because you are just barely there it might come down to how much space they have available. Transfer admission to UGA is definitely easier than freshman and I have not heard of anyone with the minimum gpa & credit requirements getting denied. I think you will almost certainly get in.

The only thing you can do now is just apply, wait, and stay optimistic. I personally advise having one or two safety schools just in case it happens to be a crazy overcrowded year (unlikely, especially for spring semester) just in case. Good luck!

Alright I’m now sitting at a 2.87 gpa with 60 credits. I could take a July class which would bump me up to 2.94, assuming I get an A. I’d prefer not to though since I wanted to use this last month of summer to travel. Would that extra .07 boost even matter much or should I just go ahead and apply?

Well a bump up to your gpa could only improve your chances, but I really can’t say whether that .07 will matter all that much. It really just depends on the space available, so unless it’s an exceptionally popular year for spring uga transfers it usually wouldn’t make much of a difference.

Ultimately, you need to just really weigh the costs and benefits of taking this extra class (or two) and consider how badly you want to travel. If the travel is a once in a lifetime experience definitely do that. But if it’s not, & you’re insecure w/ your stats & are really counting on getting in you could only benefit from an extra A.

wow you can get in with a 2.8?
