applying to transfer -- economics

I am applying to transfer into Columbia's economics program, but I am worried that I will appear better suited for another major (and will therefore have a better chance of getting in through that major). When looking at potential economics majors, does Columbia look at them any differently than potential ___ majors? In other words, I have done multiple things to distinguish myself in the field of English Literature (one of my three majors at my current schools), but relatively little in the field of economics.. in addition to that, the only math class I have taken is Calc 1, and I got a B in that. I have taken numerous economics classes, including a bunch of junior and senior level courses (statistics included), and have only gotten A's in them.

I love economics, but I love Columbia more. Would it be better to apply for a different major -- say, English Literature -- and then attempt to transfer into economics (although staying in Lit. would be fine), or will my chances not be affected by my lack of performance in math?

Also, my SAT scores were 780v/690m/760w.

Apply as a transfer for English Literature and then switch over to economics when you need to. Columbia College is full of Economics/Political Science majors who are either oriented towards finance or law. Since Columbia has an excellent English program (to my knowledge), I would apply as a transfer for English and change majors once I got in.

I’ve heard that also not needing financial aid boosts your chances for admission. Many of the transfers that I saw were upper middle class/upper class and didn’t need any aid from the school. Apologies if this is cynical or mean, and please correct me if anyone has statistics.
