I am planning on applying to a private institution SCEA this fall. Can I apply to U of M at the same time?

UM has Rolling Admissions, which means you can apply basically anytime (with no one hard-and-fast deadline), so yeah, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to apply SCEA and apply to UM at the same time. It does have an "early response" policy, where you have to submit your app by November or so in order to get a response by December, and I'm not sure if this is just an extension of the Rolling Admissions policy or if it actually counts as an EA policy that would conflict with SCEA. I'd email the private school to make sure.

With Stanford you can, I don't know about Yale or any of the others, though.

ER(different from ED/EA) at Michigan is not binding , from what I've heard and read on this forum.

short answer: most likely yes.
better answer: go to the source -- read the description of SCEA for the school you're interested in, they will give specific information about what they permit. If you're still confused, call the school.

you can apply to UMich and Yale SCEA...that's actually what I did and I had no problem whatsoever with it. Actually, I recommend it b/c a positive notification from Michigan in November or early December is a HUGE stress reliever before winter decisions!

yea you can. SCEA only means you cant do early action with any other school. you can still apply tho.
