Applying to UBC undergrad Engineering (special case)

Hi,
I'm interested in applying to ubc for undergrad applied sciences, however you may think why I'm asking about it here. I am 26 years old, and after graduating from high school I worked for 8 years and eventually now I have my own business which is somehow related to Civil engineering and this is why I am interested in this field. I am considering moving to Canada from Iran, and I cannot continue my own business there so I want to start studying in the field that I'm interested.
I was wondering what are my chances and is there anything I can do to increase my chances?

Thanks in advance for your responses

Well you might be lucky, Just apply and contact the admissions office for more info.

It really depends on your grades. With Canadian school admissions, most dont take into account EC’s (which is what your work would be considered I think). That being said UBC does have a broad based admission going on, so assuming that your grades in HS were decent-good, and you can explain in your essays why you decided to go into the direction you did out of HS, and of course why you want to do engineering, you should be fine. Without knowing anything more and assuming you have an average that is above the “cut-off”, you should be fine. UBC has a fairly good engineering program, although UofT and especially Uwaterloo are better for that field imo.

You should also consider some US schools as well (some of the good ones), they do put a lot of emphasis on someone’s background, and if your background comes out clearly within your application, I feel like you could get in (again assuming you have decent grades, as well as decent SAT/TOEFL/SAT2 scores), and you show your prior experience clearly and how it developed you as an individual as well as a leader, you could get in.

Good luck!
