Applying to UCB help?

Hi, I'm thinking about applying for a transfer to UCB next year (freshman this year) in ChemE and right now I'm attending Oregon State University. Can anyone give me some tips (other than good grades) on how to improve my chances of getting in, especially for applying OOS (I heard that they only accept 10% OOS transfers each year) and possible scholarships?

go to a ccc, it improves your chances, cheper and a bit easier.

a bit?
more like a lot easier

your telling me. I barley graduated in HS and now I’m pulling down a 3.9+

best of luck

now is that because you tried harder in CCC or because CCC is easier, or a combination of the two?

both, I was apathetic in HS, but cc’s are still crazy easy.

there's no magical formula...just try to get good grades, ECs, and rock the personal statements. And Hope for the best.

i still argue CC isn't easier...the grading is easier, but in terms the material, its just approached dif and theres absolutely no competition for motivated students like us = )

i agree with ilovecalifornia. the approach is different. and there is very little motivation to be competitive. if you work well in a competitive environment, it may be hard to do well at a cc. that is just my personal experience though.

CC is crazy easy?
Angljc1....what kind of classes are you taking??

try taking some higher level math or chem courses or try calculus based physics then we'll talk =P

Amazing no one has mentioned Cal doesn't take sophmore transfers!

If you really want Cal, transfer to a CA CC. You will have a MUCH better chance. Otherwise you'll need incredibly top grades and major related ECs.

If you also work full time while going to a CC you may be able to establish residency so you don't have to pay $40K/yr.

It's not that CC classes are easier (they're not), it's that you pretty much get in automatically if you go from CC to Cal. I mean, the average transfer GPA is like 3.3. And that's average.

professors explain things so SLOWLY...

I have taken higher level courses ...what, Physics of Star Trek doesn’t count?

Really though, cc is so much easer than 4 year college. I think my (easy) senior year was harder than my last two years at cc. It might no be true for all but that’s just my viewpoint. ;)

you know what?

CC is obviously easier than top UCs...

but I'm at a california community college, and I have friends who went from four years (CSU and UC riverside) to CC, and they all say that CC is harder...

obviously my CC is just good, but seriously. enough about CCs being incredibly easy. they're not. college takes effort, cc (or at least my CC) isn't an easy A.

woah ilovecal, woah.

Heres what i think; just like some 4-year colleges are hareder and easier than others the same is true for cc's. your cc muct be harder than mine because mine is pretty dame easy.

sorry to upset you.
I love you :)

haha i love you too (although i've never seen your id before, its all good)

yea my CC is def above par i guess...

I think it depends on what cc u go

It really builds the reputation of cc...I go to ccsf and its not easy A.

and i think when u go to tough cc, it give u better shot in transferring.
