heh Fusionice662 , one of my bffs goes to SMC. I'm always impressed when someone tells me they go to SMC...its like the Harvard of CCs (not being sarcastic). But in any case, all the stuff you mention are merely app boosters (job, volunteer work, and personal statement). I think if you throw that on top of a good gpa, perhaps your honors program and decent completion of pre-reqs, than you should be at UCB come next fall =]

Best wishes, Cardinal...

Im thiking of majoring in psych

Wow I hate SMC (for so many reasons). Of all the community colleges I have taken classes from they have been the worst. I am glad I am almost done. The reason I even took classes there was because everybody talked about how great they are. The classes are exactly the same but the college staff is horrible (at least the ones I have had contact with). Anyway to the OP, I think you have a good shot.

"Harvard of CCs"

I kid you not Citan. Thats how I really percieve SMC.

ha, my cc is like the CSUN of CCs.

Hey Cardinal, aren't you suppose to be at CalSo right now?

Hey Willdo,

Nah, next week. On the 13th...hahah. So damn late.

I also attend Santa Monica College. I'm also planning to transfer to UC Berkeley. :) We have some things in common. My major is Economics, however.

SMC is the only community college I've attended so I have no basis to compare it to other CCs. I truly love the quality of education at SMC though. The professors of the classes I've taken thus far have been outstanding--but I made sure to choose quality instructors. (RateMyProfessors.com can help you decide).

Anyway, Fusionice, in my opinion UC Berkeley puts much heavier consideration upon your GPA than your extra curriculars like employment or volunteering (unless, of course, it pertains to Psychology). If you read SMC's flier for major prerequisites, look under UC Berkeley and you'll read: "...In general, applicants are selected primarily based upon strength of academic preparation and grade point average."

Good luck,
