I filled out the first portion of the application today! I listed my major as Women's Studies. Does major influence your chances of getting in? Does being from California help because of the geographic breakdowns?

Major doesn’t matter at all when applying to the School of Arts & Sciences. UR understands that the vast majority of students change their major at least twice before graduation.

Geographic breakdowns don’t matter too much either, as UR is not a state school. Despite its name, it is a private school. There are also a lot of students from CA there.

While UR likes having geographic diversity in its undergrad classes, it’s not a huge factor in admission. There are plenty of California kids (over 125! 4th most from any state) at UR. Being from CA won’t help (or hurt) your admission chances.

Thanks for posting the link WOWmom.

No one from MS or SD. MS surprised me more; I assume ND and SD are typically 1, 2 or 0.

To be honest, it could help slightly because I bet less people from CA know about UR and apply. With that being said, this shouldn’t be the only reason you apply, make sure you take other factors that are more important into account
