Does applying undeclared hurt you when it comes to admissions? Like if I had a similar stats as someone else and they were applying as biology and I was undeclared would they end up choosing the bio major?

No because colleges know most students relish the freedom to switch majors.

It depends on the school. Unfortunately, it is not always obvious whether choosing a major at application time makes a difference.

In schools divided into divisions (e.g. arts and sciences, engineering, business, etc.), you may have to apply to the division, and changing divisions later may be difficult and require another competitive admissions process.

Agree^. At schools that have you declare a major half way through it should make no difference because as T26E4 states, there is a poor correlation between declared majors and final majors. If you are applying into a school that makes changing your major difficult, it may very well be that it is easier to get in as a declared anthropology major than as a business major but you can’t use that to “game” the system since there is no certainty you will be allowed to change majors.

it all depends on where you are applying. Some universities do not take intended major into account, some do for every major, some do depending on major (for example at the UCs for any major in Letters & Science they don’t care about your major, but in Engineering they do).
