I took the ACT last February and received a 28. I was planning on taking the ACT again after studying (this summer), but I noticed UF's application opens August 1.

The closest ACT test is September 10, and I would give ~3 weeks until I receive my scores, so practically October. Cutting it that close to the application deadline (November 1) will worries me and I'm trying to decide if I should apply with a 28 ACT or try again. I'm not sure how well I would do after a second try, but the SAT is out of the question (1820 after 3 tries).

Regarding the holistic view on applicants, I believe I am fairly well rounded.

Just for context: I have been taking the hardest courses at my private south Floridian school (IB/AP coursetrack, and some courses on FLVS and at the community college), I'm on various clubs (editor on newspaper, played tennis for two years, and VP of National Honor Society). And since we're getting into stats, I'm an African-American male from a single parent household.

So, my main question is, do I have a chance of applying to UF with a 28 ACT score? I don't want to be one of the "lame, this kid ONLY has a 28 on the ACT" applicants that the UF admissions committee laughs at.

They accept SAT/ACT until like December lol.

But a 28 is good (their 25-75% is 26-30 so you’re right in the middle for UF), so paired with everything else you’ve done, you’ll be fine. It won’t hurt to try a few more times, just to put the nail in the coffin and make sure you get in. You’ll definitely be able to do the September and October ones and have them get your scores, maybe the December one.
