Has anyone received their appointee kits yet? If you have, what is in them? The offer of appointment said that we should receive them in February if we accept.

nope, not yet for me.

They were late last year; I don't think we got ours until March.

haven't got mine yet either

I think they space it out like this on purpose to keep the appointees excited and waiting.

i have recent got my appointment forms and sent them off... my USAFA counselor said she was sending the other info. now.

sometime this month iam sure, i would guess anytime now hopefully...

and that had to have been a mass mailing last year if 500 apointee kits went out with 1000 appointments as well... :)

FWIW; My son just got his "Appointee Kit" in the mail today. 2/22/08, He is going through it now, so I'll update later everything that is in it. There is a booklet; similar looking to the one he got when he received his appointment. Except this one says something like appointee instructions. I'll update later on the details. I know on the front of it it had a sticker with his P.O. Box assigned at the academy for mail.

That's about all I got to see before the little booger grabbed it all away. You know, the standard lord of the rings; "MY PRECIOUS". He'll let me see it later and I will give updates.

Christcorp,

Part of the "being the dad" deal; just like on Christmas morning, you watch your kids get all these cool new toys that you want to check out yourself, but you have to let them get to play with it first until they get bored with it.

My only question. Did the package come with bubble wrap and duct tape? (preventive measure to ensure nothing happens between now and June :) )

Good thing it arrived on a Friday, as he's probably going to spend the entire night going over the info. Over and over and over....

Best of luck to your son, and all the best as he starts an exciting period of his life.

Thanks for the wishes bullet. My son is pretty well grounded. He looked through the packet for about 20 minutes and turned it over to me. He's getting ready to go out and spend time with his girlfriend.

For those interested, there's basically 2 things that MUST be filled out and a lot of other info. There is an SGLI life insurance policy and "Next of Kin" forms that need to be filled out and sent back prior to May 15th. After those two, there is a security clearance form that needs to be done. (I think it can be hand carried to the academy). There's also a (Please join our organization) from one of the academy alumni type of organization. After that, there's the actual booklet. It talks about the things you should prepare for coming to the academy. Recommend getting wisdom teeth out ahead of time (IF) your dentist sees a need for them to come out in the near future anyway. If not, don't worry about it. Immunizations. Inviting family to drop their kids off. Have final transcripts sent from school. Etc.... Bunch of stuff.

This is all the stuff I remember when I first got in the Air Force. The never ending forms and paper work. Anyway; others should start receiving theirs soon. Obviously, if you are still waiting on an appointment, it may bee a few weeks.

man, i'm so excited! didn't get it today, but hopefully soon within the next couple of days :)
I'll have to remember this excitement while I'm in basic wishing my life would end ;)

haha. so true. but as for now, i just want my appointee kit and to get one step closer.

Darn, mine hasn't come either, and I can't check the mail until Monday (we don't have a mail box, and the place we get mail at is closed till Monday) :( :(

I can provide some advice on some of the forms you'll be getting.

The Security Clearance is something that you will find out more about later, so I'm not going to cover that right now. ;)

For 2011, our packet included some workout suggestions, and even a scheduled plan to get ready for BCT. It also included the rest of the stuff Christcorp mentioned.

As for the "Academy Alumni type of organization", that's the Associate of Graduates (AOG). They are very involved with the Academy, and offer some cool perks as a member. One of those things is access to the webpage for WebGuy, a AOG photographer who goes around during BCT and takes pictures, and posts daily BCT updates and schedules, so parents can have some idea of what their son/daughter is doing that day of BCT.

Well, I guess that's enough for now. Continue to enjoy these last few months, as hard as it may be to wait.

The Association Of Graduates fills a significant funding gap that exists between what the federal government provides and what is needed for a variety of cadet programs. As as Falcons '11 said 2012 parents will spend their nights this summer on the AOG website (WebGuy) looking for pictures of their basic cadet. For three weeks it was the only connection we had. I would urge parents to support the AOG. They also have an on-line store in addition to the one at Doolittle Hall (the site of goodbyes at I-day) that sells squad pins that a lot of 2011 parents brought as they figured out what academic year squad their son or daughter would be assigned to after BCT.

I just looked at the website and they posted 14,857 pictures between Induction and Acceptance day.
They also posted the daily schedule to give parents a feel as to what was going on that day. We will never forgot the first picture we saw of our basic and the hours spent trying to read his face.

But by far the coolest (and most emotional) thing we saw on I-day was a basic from Florida, knowing that his mother was at the Chapel wall with a telephoto lens, signed her "I love you" while at attention with his hand at his side.

If anyone would like to see some classic I-day or Webguy photos feel free to PM me.

one of the things we learned last year with webguy was the colored lanyard has meaning. If you can let your parents know what color your lanyard is they can find you easier in the 100's of pictures Webguy posts everyday. Nothing more frustrating for a parent than looking at a picture of what you think is your child only to find out later the Lanyard color is wrong. "Last phone call Mom, Dad I getting on the bus my lanyard is orange"....calm parents.

ds52262 - That is the BEST ADVICE given!!!

2012's if you do nothing else, call/text or tele-path your parents what color your lanyard is. Ask your B&B family to call your folks to tell them what squad you are in, whatever works - just be sure to get them word ASAP. Webguy is quick to find out what squads have which color lanyard - Photo's go up very quickly and lanyard color is VITAL!

Might be quicker this year too with all the 2010's in power. ;) Bribes maybe? ;)

Aggressors
Barbarians
Cobras
Demons
Executioners
Flying Tigers
Guts
Hellcats
Interceptors
Jaguars

I wouldn't go by that, the colors change. For example, when I went through, Barbarians were grey.
