not yet, still waiting...

My son received an appointment to USMMA today...FedEx left a packet on the porch. At least, I think it will be encouraging and a confidence boost after all this time waiting (7 months since application in to USCGA.) Question...do all service academies send appointments by FedEx? We've been stalking the mailman; perhaps it's the FedEx truck we should be watching for!

Congrats on the MMA appointment.

As far as CGA, the appointment comes by regular mail(USPS).

Thanks Boss. I know you had said daughter told she'd hear by 3/17 and your son received his appointment on 3/29 last year. Both dates have arrived...heard anything from anyone yet? It seems some went out 2/15 but I can't tell that anyone else has gotten appointment since then. April is almost here.

She did hear by that date...alternate status. At that point they said all appointments will be made by May 1st.

They have been the slowest out of the service academies, that i have applied to. The next batch of letters has to be soon.

lets hope so, hopefully those who plan on not attending also notify admissions so some alternates (cough cough me) can be offered appts.

We heard this week that CGA has 200 alternates now and all remaining appointments will be made strictly to "fill the needs of the class." The communication said only a "handful" of the alternates will receive an appointment and that the review board won't be meeting again for a couple of weeks. Sounds like the probability of any given alternate receiving an appointment has dramatically decreased.

This process is a bit crazy:
I heard from a CGA representative yesterday that the review of all the applicants has been completed and that the alternated will be reviewed starting next week. She did state that it was very competitive this year, which I took as meaning that the selections from the alternated pool would be less.
She also stated that they hope to have all appointments made by 4/15. I did not ask how many appoints were left!

The long this goes on the less I understand the process!!!

TheCommissior Could you tell us where your information came from?
Do you know how many appointments have been handed out?

We heard from my son's admissions officer. I don't know how many appointments have been offered and/or accepted.

as the days go on, my hopes dwindle

CB chin up...hopefully we'll hear something soon.

Its tough CB. Especially for someone like you who I'm sure has not failed very often. Its easy for me to say now that I have my scholarship however I didn't get in last year and had to turn down an offer to Westpoint because I really realized it wasn't the place for me. They are always tough decisions and tough pills to swallow if someone says no. Keep at this year and do what you need to do to strengthen your App. I'm a college freshman this year and i am basically having to redo my freshman year to gain my appointment for the class of 12' Hey worst case scenario this year if you don't get in. You'll have a friendly face their for swab summer with the class of 12' as I'll be their:) Keep at it and don't let your hopes die. Persistence is rewarded one way or another eventually

Excellent post HB! I couldn't have said it better, heck I couldn't have said it since you are right out there on the line. How is baseball going?

HardBall0101 were you an Alternate last year? If so at some point did they inform you that you were not selected?

I wasn't an alternate last year at the CGA. In fact, i wasn't that interested in the CGA last year. It wasn't till I moved back to the coast that I remembered exactly what I was missing and the how much I loved it. I forgot when I moved inland. I had a nomination to westpoint last year and withdrew my file in February after some soul searching. At that point I wanted to fly (and still do) and was pretty hell bent on USAFA. I didn't get in because my English section was far too low (22) and the minimum is a 24. They basically threw my app with the bathwater when my score in English didn't improve enough. I never got a chance to retake it my senior year just due to some really weird circumstances.
And baseball goes well. We opened up this year with he toughest team in the NWAACC's prolly and so we are 0-3 in league but we'll see how next weekend goes. I don't play much because when I found out I got into GCA I decided to redshirt. Its still nice being apart of the team though and practicing.

Nice report...refresh my aging memory...are you going to NMMI or NAPS?

I have pretty much decided on NMMI based on reputation from people that I trust. I have heard they are far superior in facilities and and academics. The other big advantage is New Mexico's weather is far more conducive to playing baseball than say Rhode Island or Marion. The other big advantage over NAPS is I was told by an academy rep and then again in my literature that i received that while on scholarship at one of the civilian prep schools i will be enlisting in the Coast Guard Reserve. Since I am in that. i will be receiving a stipend equal to the active duty pay of an E-2. the other bonus... since I'm enlisted in counts towards my retirement as well. :):) So as far as retirement goes I don't lose anything by going to prep school and in fact I was told I make a "significant" amount more money at the civilian prep schools than NAPS. My only question that I'm hoping to have answered when I go out for my CGA Scholar Orientation in a couple of weeks is whether or not I am considered Prior enlisted once I am out of the academy. I don't see how I couldn't be unless they have special regulations concerning this exact thing because I will be considered active in the Coast Guard Reserve while at prep school.

Do you go to boot camp in Cape May before going to NMMI
