Apprenticeship/Internship VS. Volunteering

Hey guys! So as I was looking for internships, I came across a lot which are directed in my city for high school students.

I would love to do one of them. However, the only ones I would be interested in are only available on days in which I volunteer which is M, W, F, and Sat. Each of them are 3 days a week and for some reason ones I can do like Engineering, etc. have three days that all fall on the ones I volunteer on. The other ones are music and art related which in no way is for me.

I've been volunteering for 4 years and unlike most, love it. I do so many things here from information desk (which SH I'm at now) to helping a cardiologist.

Is it worth it to have both volunteering and this internship under my belt or continue just volunteering here?

BUMP.(((((: I’m home now.):

Can you change the days you volunteer? Sounds like you have some “seniority” so they might be flexible with your sked. Or, can you reduce the hours? Ds2 volunteered for three summers, about 25 hours/week, at a place he loved but when an internship arose – one he really wanted – he cut back to one day a week at the volunteer gig. They were still happy to have him when they could.

Well I do for the summer, not so much for the fall when it starts. I’ll keep looking though because none of these are ones I really want.

Good call. I sure wouldn’t give up a volunteer gig you love for an internship you aren’t crazy about just to look good on a resume.

The one I do like is a Lifeguarding “Internship” at another Chicago school, but it starts at 3:00 and I end school at 3:00 and its about a half an hour away.): Oh well, I don’t even see how becoming certified is an internship lol.
