Apprenticeship vs Scholarship

omg thank you so much for your help!
this site is truly helpful for people who are just going through this whole MT college process.
I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart, you’ve all helped so much.
:)

Not sure if this is the right place, but my D is an MT major at PP and absolutely loves it!!
Good luck everyone

My D just checked status sent out her Copa appr and sch award letter 2/22 she auditioned L.A. 2/12. She auditioned for both M.T and Drama,do not no which program accepted to.Is anyone bummed that its only a B.A program?

typecast…actually, at least in MT, all students begin in the BA, but are able to audition into BFA MT later in the process. Some choose to stay in the BA, some go after the BFA option. You can check the major sheets online for the differences in the two tracks. I kind of like that kids start out as BAs, so they can assess over time whether they want the full out BFA focus, or a broader course of study. Congrats to your d! Maybe your daughter and mine will be on campus there next year!

Thanks for the info, in their sophomore year they can audition for their BFA spot.I guess this Spring break we will be busy looking at campuses again…

still no change. I wonder what that means :/

@aefitzMT - i know its hard waiting, it was hard for me as well, but hold on. youll get the answer soon enough. good luck to you, im crossing fingers and toes that you get in!

@typecast - starting out in the BA can be either a good or bad thing. in my opinion its good because it allows the students to see whether or not they want to go and take the harder courses, and more rigorous schedule, that comes with a BFA. when you audition you either get 1 of these 3 answers…No, Yes, or Re-audition in the spring. i think that if point park is the school for your daughter then she will know, by just doing the BA course, whether or not she wants to move ahead in the profession.
i had to consider the same thing and i am prepared to do the BA and then audition for the BFA program.

I actually got my artistic acceptance letter yesterday in the mail.
Extremely good news with the whole scholarship thing, so I’m super excited about taking this offer and going to Point Park, but my parents want me to wait awhile and see what I get when I complete my FAFSA and Point Park send me my financial aid package.

@aefitzMT - I have no idea where you leave but you will be receiving your letter pretty soon, so I’m still crossing fingers that it is good news! Please tell me if you got accepted :)

Congratulations latoyae93. Yes, wait for your FAFSA information so you can see what your entire package will be. DD loves PPU and was very happy with her total aide package.

Congrats!!
Still no change on my pointweb account or any mail :?
when did you audition?

@keeping calm - Do you mind me asking how much COPA actually cost, like direct costs and such, and how much aid was actually given to you? I have been using PPU financial aid calculator but I would really like to know from someone who has a child currently attending PPU. You dont have to if its too personal though haha I was just asking.

@aefitzMT - Thank you so much! And ughh I wish I could make this so much easier on you. The wait for an acceptance is pretty much the hardest ordeal ever! But I auditioned on Feb 5th at the NY Unifieds.

latoyae93 I will try and get you this information soon. I am swamped at work and I don’t know it off the top of my head so it will take some searching around the house. I will send it via an email to you if that is OK.

@keeping calm - take all the time that you need and yes email would be best, thank you so much for all your help!

When and where did students already getting acceptances audition?

Hi, stressedhskid (I think that user name could fit a lot of people around this time of year…). My daughter auditioned on campus at their first audition, way back on October 30. She received her artistic acceptance about a month later, give or take. How long has it been since your audition? I know they saw a LOT of people at the Unifieds, and may still be sorting through that. Did you check your status online? Sometimes that shows up a little sooner than the mail. There sometimes seems to be no rhyme or reason to how/when results arrive. Some people hear much sooner than others… Hang in there!

my S auditioned at Chicago Unifieds and got his letter of artistic acceptance on 2/24, but he saw the change on his Pointweb on 2/17

Thank you both!

mommafrog - I auditioned 2/13 at the LA Unifieds. Apparently some people from the 2/12 date have already heard back but I still haven’t heard anything and my PointWeb hasn’t changed. :/

I’ve gotten an e-mail confirming academic acceptance to the university. When I checked Pointweb, it said nothing about artistic acceptance, but it did say this:

“Our last contact with you was with Theatre Scholarship Award Letter Sent on 03/04/2011.”

Does that mean I got into the BFA MT or BFA Acting program? Seems like it, but I want to make sure before I celebrate. I’m from Canada, so getting the letter will take a while.

silverstream-

CONGRATULATIONS!!

That is exactly the wording on Pointweb that we saw for rmy S.
His letter of acceptance ( with scholarship $) came a week later.
They can’t tell you over the phone… which was so frustrating.
Waiting for that actual letter felt like forever… hang in there… your letter is coming… although to Canada it may take a bit longer than it took us :/

congrats! that’s so exciting!
