Anyone know when point park notifies about MT decisions? Also do they consider your audition for both acting and MT or just one? Are there call backs after that audition on campus?
I know that Point Park was the first academic acceptance that my D received, and we’ve heard nothing else since her November audition. I know that her audition was final - there was not an on-campus callback or any further artistic audition - and she was only interested in MT. My guess is that the artistic decision will not be made until March, but most other colleges that she has been accepted to have bombarded us with enrollment and scholarship info, and we’ve received relatively little from them.
Last year, Point Park notified all students of artistic decisions on March 15, and I think they are doing that again this year. They will send out the scholarship packet then as well. Last year, accepted kids got an email on the 15th, with a full packet in the mail shortly thereafter.
I do not believe there are any callbacks after the on campus auditions. I know last year there were no callbacks after Unified auditions (my daughter auditioned for them at NY Unifieds last year). I’m not sure whether they consider MT students for acting as well, as mine only wanted MT.
Hope that answers some of your questions. My daughter is a current freshman there, and is loving the program. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.
Thanks for that info @KelviVan and @CTDramaMom headed there soon and just wanted some quick info.
Unless something changes for this year, acting and MT are two separate auditions. MT is not automatically considered for acting unless they also did the acting audition.
The decision date is March 17th and the acting audition is separate still.
@KelviVan was your child asked for a second monologue or just the one? D says it says on the website they could ask for a second? She had plenty I was just wondering
I know the question was directed at someone else, but yes they did ask for the second monologue.
Can’t speak for this year, but I know last year my D did both songs, both monologues and said she was coached extensively by Zeva. Of course all this comes with a caveat - you never know what’s going through the minds of the folks in the room. My D had auditions where they spent a lot of time with her and she was not accepted. I’ve heard stories from others of auditions where the kids felt the auditors were barely paying attention to them and they got admitted. So try not to read too much into what happens in the room and wait for the results. Easier said than done, I know!
Thanks @samigaga . My D was just wondering about the possibility of being asked for a second monologue, she hasn’t auditioned yet, it’s this weekend. She just wanted to be prepared.
Yes @CTDramaMom I know that a lot of attention can mean nothing and being completely ignored can result in an acceptance. We totally don’t analyze anything when we leave the auditions , we just leave and move forward . I actually try to avoid any tours of the schools too! I don’t want her to get attached anywhere so we literally bolt afterward lol. It’s tough but in this process necessary. We will revisit the schools that become contenders in the spring.
My D is a junior at Point Park. If you have questions about anything I would be happy to answer them.
@CTDramaMom Thanks for your post: “My D had auditions where they spent a lot of time with her and she was not accepted. I’ve heard stories from others of auditions where the kids felt the auditors were barely paying attention to them and they got admitted. So try not to read too much into what happens in the room and wait for the results. Easier said than done, I know!”
My D just had one of those - “I-might-as-well-be-singing-in-an-empty-room experiences” so we’re trying not to read anything into it like your post says. #KeepingHopeAlive
@samigaga how did you hear March 17th notification date? Based upon website, I thought it was March 14th?
“Applicants who audition by March 10, 2017 and have been academically admitted to the University will receive their artistic admission decision and artistic achievement award beginning March 14, 2017.”
Candidates will be notified both by email and letter of the admission decision. Full financial aid awards will be sent upon academic and artistic admittance. We are not permitted to disclose audition results over the phone or by email.
@CTDramaMom my thanks as well. We now understand how surprising results can be and how second guessing the friendliness of a room is not a predictive tool (although sometimes it is)… And as for variety of things asked for at Point Park audition…my S was asked to sing a third song but was not asked to perform ANY monologues and was not coached or redirected at all–so that is much different than all of the other things everyone else posted??? Who knows??? I am so thankful all experienced CC’ers who repeatedly say that results are not something you can predict based upon what happens in the room. There is no way to know what asking for 2 songs and 2 monologues means or 3 songs and no monologues or even a colder reception. It is however helpful to know that at Point Park any combination can occur and be prepared for whatever the auditors ask for. We are waiting (not so) patiently for March 14th, or March 17th, or whenever. sigh.
You are very welcome! The end is in sight, folks! Take a deep breath. What will be, will be. And you kids will wind up where they are supposed to be in the end.
The nice thing about the way Point Park notifies, if they follow last year’s pattern, is that they do it by email all in one day, not sporadically over days like some other schools. So whatever the day is, March 14 or 17 (if the website says 14, then that’s most likely the date; the date was on the website last year), by the end of that day you’ll know where you stand, as you’ll get an email either way (yes, no or waitlist).
@iheartpatina If we get a “yes” or “waitlist” email from PPU on the 14th, you can bet I’ll be asking you questions!
Actually, @MomofMTBoy – the wording about notifications of artistic acceptance on the website says “by March 14, 2017”. So I suppose that some could receive their decisions before then.
I copied and pasted it here:
Applicants who audition by March 10, 2017 and have been academically admitted to the University will receive their artistic admission decision and artistic achievement award by March 14, 2017.
Actually, @MomofMTBoy The PPU website says that artistic decisions will be made “by March 14, 2017”, so I suppose that some notifications could be going out before then.
[ Here is the sentence from the webpage: Applicants who audition by March 10, 2017 and have been academically admitted to the University will receive their artistic admission decision and artistic achievement award by March 14, 2017. ]
The wording on how the notification will be made is a bit confusing.
First, it says that “Candidates will be notified both by email and letter of admission decision.”
But then is also says: “We are not permitted to disclose audition results over the phone or by email.”
@daughtersdreams - what that usually means is that if you call up or email asking for audition results, they will not give them to you. You must wait for the department to email you your decision and/or receive it by letter.
@daughtersdreams the same wording was on the website last year, and PPU notified everyone on the same day, the day stated on the website, via email. Then they followed up by snail mail with the acceptance letter and financial aid packet. And of course, I’m here to answer any questions anyone might have after March 14! BOL to all.
