Appropriate volunteer hour for applying pravite university?

I heard volunteer hr should be at least 150 hr for applying pravite university...

Consider the college application~what is the appropriate volunteer hour for applying pravite university? (Ivys, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, ect)

volunteering should be done for the sake of volunteering, there's no set amount

volunteer hour should be 1200 hour at least.

1200? Are you effing joking me? I heard you have to do double the square of that just to stand a chance at private universities...especially the Ivy Leagues.

Of course I've been living in the library for two years so I think I'll be fine.

Yeah, 1200 hours is a joke. You need at least 10,000 hours to qualify for admission at a private university.

tbh I've heard rumors of top applicants doing 100,000.

We all don't stand a chance unfortunately.

Ok, for a real answer.

Volunteering used to be something that set students apart from others, but not so much anymore because so many high schools now require volunteering as a graduation requirement.

So, yes, I think they expect to see at least some hours (30 - 50) (but if you have other great assets I don't think it will keep you from being admitted even if you don't have any at all).

The only way, however, that volunteering will set you apart from the pack will be if those volunteering hours are for an extended time (over your four years of high school, for instance) or even better, if those hours are related to your passion that is reflected in your application. For instance, love to write? Want to be an author? Are you already in writing clubs, attending writing workshops and conferences, interning at a magazine, on the high school newspaper, published ??? Then having also volunteered at your local library for two to three years (lets say over 100 - 200 hours) then yes, that would also add to your application.

Hope this is helpful.
