apps are out folks!

hahahaha. its ironic that i just made a thread asking where they were yesterday only to find it waiting in my mailbox this morning. 2012, hold tight, im guessing youll be getting yours shortly.

Yea I just got mine too, the race to send it in begins.

Awaiting the mailman...

No luck today, I guess I'm stuck waiting until Tuesday.

I'm kind of glad that USMA mailed out their applications last. I have to say that with filling out the USNA and USAFA applications and doing my USAFA ALO interview that I now have my **** together and have a better idea of what the Academies are looking for. USMA will definitely get my best prepared application and it's reassuring to know that they will see the best picture of me.

hey soylent, can you give us that aren't applying to numerous academies a hint of what you think they expect? thanks for your time.

It's hard to explain because as applicants we pretty much already know what they expect, but it doesn't sink in until you have someone grilling you face to face.

I haven't participated in sports in high school, but I have had a job through two years. My ALO was quite concerned that I didn't have enough leadership and teamwork experience, although I insisted that two years working in a high volume restaurant has served me well. In that regard, I now realize that I have to better explain my responsibilities at my job and the teamwork and leadership that exists that gets the job done. If you think that the academies will find fault in your application, try to "fill in the blanks".

The main points that I believe the academies are looking for (not in any order) are teamwork, leadership, commitment, dedication, service to others, and a love for country which brings about a sense of duty to serve. They also seem to look for the ability to work under pressure and with a very tight schedule. My ALO seemed to like anecdotes rather than broad generalizations of my character, so that may be applicable with the USMA application.

I'm just detailing my personal experience and I may very well be mistaken, so feel free to correct me if my assumptions are incorrect.

thanks man! and good luck! ;]

My daughter received her application in today's mail.

Mine came today too!

I RECIVED MINE TODAY!! IM EXCITED! I DONT KNOW HOW THIS APPLICATION WORKS. When's the deadline and why are there so many envelopes?

Peteyflow:

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!!!!! There are so many envelopes because certain things must be sent in separately, such as your recommendation letters, transcripts, birth certificate, etc.

FYI: You will most likely never see the letters of recommendation unless someone decides to give you a copy. (Out of all the letters required by West Point and congressmen, we actually only saw 1.) They go straight to West Point. That is one way to give someone an "out" if you ask them and they really do not feel you are qualified; since you never see the letter, you have no idea if one of the letters was less than satisfactory, hence, no hard feelings.

But, bottom line, read the instructions, follow them to the letter. All the information you need is there.

I'm feeling left out...

I'm feeling left out...

My recommendation letter situation is pretty bad at the moment. The two teachers that probably think the highest of me are both facing major family problems at the moment.

I did not get admission packet yet..

Is there a part asking you for your current studies? Check. I just want to send my stuff on the rolling admissions, and hopefully might get an answer before january (mid year reports)... I know they have to see it, but if i can get accepted before then, Id be so happy.

bump bump bump
