I'm back!

Hey guys and gals.

I hope you remember me. If you don't already know, I was a potential candidate for good ol' USNA last year. And now, I'm here, at last. Plebe summer was great, it had its ups and downs. And now is the academic year. I'm glad I've made it this far, but I've still got 3 more years down the road. This is just the beginning. Now, as for those future candidates for the Class of '12, feel free to ask any questions about the admissions process or anything here. I made good use of my time on this forum and it really helped me out alot before coming here. I just wanted to drop by and see how everyone's doing.

^^^congrats!!! (and how could we forget you! ;) )
Glad to hear plebe summer went well-
Study hard now and start your countdown to Herndon!

Congratulations PenQuinz! And hey, it's even better than you think. If you've just finished your plebe summer you've actually got almost four more whole years to soak in the glory of being at the US Naval Academy. Yaaaaaa!

Congratulations.....Might be helpful to those currently applying if you could mention anything different you have done relating to the application process. Having completed it, what would you do differently or the timing for the various stages. I think that would be very helpful for those now applying.

just be really well rounded. prepare in any way you can, to repeat what others have said, get into alot of eca's and sports. what i would have done differently was not slack off with the application process. stay on top of it. i know its alot of paper work, as well as online stuff. but get it done as fast as you can. that way you can relax and enjoy the rest of your senior year. i'm not sure of anything specific, i just applied and got it. if you've never been to the academy, take a visit. this place is amazing. that's really it. if you have any detailed questions, feel free to ask me.

Congratulations on completing plebe summer!
I have a question...I attended NASS this Summer, except I was wondering if I would still be allowed to visit the Academy during a CVW. How do they work/how do you apply? I am an official candidate who is simply waiting for DoDMERB to do their part, except I haven't received any word regarding my app. from the Academy.

^^^^^
The Admissions Office sends out letters in the fall inviting candidates to participate in a Candidate Visitation Weekend (CVW). Last year, the first CVW occurred in October.

The first CVW this year is 25-27 October.

For more infor, see the "public claendars" section of the USNA web site:

thanks for the information!! except does anyone know if you have to have an appointment in order to go? (just to make a final decision) or can you just be a candidate?

No appointment, no nomination needed to be invited. Son received invite late September, received nomination and Appointment in November, waited to attend CVW until end of January. Also can be invited even even if attended NASS.

The CVW invitation is sent to those that are highly qualified. Sort of a "is this the right place for you" type visit. As stated by others, my son was still waiting for DoDMERB and has yet to begin the nomination process when he received his invite. He received his in late September. I do not know your academic scores but if you received an invite to NASS you're more then likely going to receive an invitation for a CVW. Good Luck.

P.S. Get used to waiting and waiting and waiting ........You won't hear anything and then you look in the mail and there is a letter from the Academy. My son has been there. It was worth the wait.

To get a CVW invite, you also need to complete at least 50% of the application. We heard this in an admissions briefing last year.

Just remember one thing...
Going to NASS, getting invited to a CVW, and getting fully qualified/nominated still doesn't mean you are in. Trust me. Don't slack off at all during your senior year no matter how sure you are that you will receive an appointment.

but still, relax and have a good time senior year. cherish those times. once you get here, you'll really miss it alot.

i've learned the art of study groups this year. studying + having fun with friends = not loosing sanity when your roster is all AP.
