Since I want to go into engineering (probably chemical), what would be the best APs to make sure I have. Whether it is to get gen eds out of the way or to prepare for actual engineering.

Physics, Chemistry, Calculus, Computer Science?

Ok, that’s what I was thinking. I was just curious as to gen eds too (also specifically chemical engineering, I mean, is biology needed?)

I would take Biology as well, but only if you can fit it in after chem and phys.

I V, depends on the engineering major. Biomed, sure, go ahead and take AP Biology. But if say the person wants to major in CS, then it’s not really necessary.

however, in some colleges, if you’re majoring in engineering, it is usually recommended or mandatory to retake calculus and some science courses.

You’re right, I have seen this before. After research into the colleges I’m looking at it doesn’t seem like they make you retake if you are going into engineering.

Keep in mind for your answers that I am looking into chemical engineering.

Does anyone know whether they changed the format for Comp Sci A b/c they discontinued AB?

For Chem Engg, I’d recommend:
Bio, Chem and Calc AB (or BC if you prefer).

Most schools link Bio and Chem together and they both are generally a requirement.

Uhm take it from me that you will want physics and chemistry opposed to bio. I know that chemEs use bio occasionally, but I did research just this summer in a chemE department with a mentor and it was ALL chemistry and physics. Do this:

AP Calc BC, AP Comp Science (for Matlab applications and what not, this is more important than bio), AP Chemistry (duh), and AP Physics.

Why do you need a lot of physics for chemE? Well chemEs use a lot of machines that are derived from physics theory. The more you know about this theory, the more you can manipulate your data to figure out different parameters of your test subject.

So immortalix hit it spot on. Your required high school bio honors course will do just fine for now if you have already taken bio. If you haven’t, you might as well take AP bio if it is required?
