Question for anyone knowlegable- on the USAFA website where AP’s are referred to http://academyadmissions.com/academics/curriculum/index.php tests like biology and calc have " Plus adequate score on AFA Placement Exam" placed besides them. I have always been under the impression that this was the “validation” exam offered. Is there any use in taking the AP tests for these classes? Do AP tests have any effect on your validation tests?

Same sort of question for a cadet, who's there. I understand that website doesn't mention a specific validation test for Chem, but I was under the impression that Chem was one of those classes few freshman got of cause USAFA wanted everyone to take their version of chem...Thanks!

I am going to call my Admissions Couselor around marchish for this stuff. So many conflicting reports from cadets, website, parents, etc. Counselor is prob the best thing.

In the "instructions to appointees" booklet, it talks about validation with fours or fives in almost all the sciences, maths, and englishes. HOWEVER, no mention of history... this is a bummer becasue I will ahve taken to AP history classes, only to find they are irrelevant

Just curious, anyone's school offer the IB Program?

Alright...the one department I can never get ahold of is the math department. Are there any current cadets out there that could tell me if the AP test mattered in any way for them. In the instructions to apppointees it says that "ap test combined with satisfactory scores on our placement exams will earn validation credit" but then goes on to say that you do not need an AP test to validate the class or be placed in a higher math class. So does the AP matter at all??

I know someone that told me not to bother with the AP calc test, but if you could score really well (the highest is 5?) I think it might be worth a shot.

I can not emphasize enough how important it is to take the AP exams! Yes, they absolutely matter. I was able to get a 5 on the Chem and Calc 1/2 AP exams and then, with the scores that i got on my placement tests during BCT, they allowed me to validate Calc 1 and 2, and Chem 1 and 2. I was able to get 12 credit hours for free just by taking the AP exams. I talked to the Chem department head and he told me that i would not have validated Chem even if my marks on the placement test were good if i didnt have the AP scores to back them up.

In summary... TAKE THE AP EXAMS!!!!!!!

usafaskydiver is right...

I was able to get through to the math department and they gave me that same response.
