AP money is due tomorrow at my school, and I’m still not sure whether I should take the exams. If I do take the exams, I’d take Calc BC, Statistics, and Physics. (I don’t even know which Physics exam to take! I might just hand in money for both B and C and get a $69 refund when I actually make up my mind.)

So what do you guys think? Are APs worth it at Brown? It seems like the AP system is rather flawed at Brown, since there aren’t any requirements to get out of, and AP credits don’t count toward graduation credits. Are the exams worth the extra stress and aggravation? (that we definitely don’t need at the end of our senior year!)

I guess my underlying thought is that I’m afraid I’ll do really badly and embarrass my school. “Everyone scored a 5 on the Calc BC exam this year, except for you. You got a 1/2. They had to make up a new score just to describe your hopelessness. Thanks a lot.”

Yeah. To hand in my money or not to hand in my money? What do you think?

I think you should take the BC calc exam since it's useful for placement. Actually, that probably goes for all of them, but calc is the only one that I've looked into.

If I take my AP exams, I don't have to take finals, so that alone makes it more than worth it.

I'm probably not going to take any. Even if I didn't have to take finals if I take the AP, I'd still opt for the finals (who wants to pay $82 for a useless test).

Anyone have their schools pay for them? A friend of mine gets that, and I'm rather jealous. She also got them to pay for her fee to take college courses, all of which adds up to like $630. Lotta money.

Rabo- I've never seen a bill for my AP exams... so either the my school's paying for it or slipping it in the tuition like they do with everything else... =

Our school pays for the AP exams (which is miraculous really b/c public school students normally pay for everything) ... but then again, we only have two-three APs (last year it was AP Bio, AP US His, AP Eng ... this year it's AP Span, AP Eng, AP US His (which will be gone next year, maybe even AP Eng too)) going on like per year and only about 25-40 (max) taking them.

However, b/c the school pays for them, we have to take the AP, or else you fail the class. Not a lot of people pass the AP exams either, so our school does this Project Acceleration thing w/ Seton Hall U to have college credit through there that may be applicable to other colleges (unfortunately, none of the ones I applied to).

my school county (Broward County, like the 2nd or 3rd biggest in the US) pays for all AP exams. The catch is that you HAVE to take the exam. if you don't you have to pay the school back for the money they lost ordering an extra test.

so last year when I didn't want to take the Chem exam I just doodled and took a nap and then canceled it afterward :) :)
