Now that I think about it, AP US history probably was one of my harder classes, but I didn't really notice. It's probably because I love history and I love learning about all that stuff. My teacher would make us take notes on entire units at home, frequent vocab, a whole bunch of DBQ's, and hella homework!. That really wore me out, but she was still awesome though. Definitely made the subject exciting.

ah, i've been there. we had to do 150 notecards in four days once, plus a DBQ. we also had two major tests within that same amount of time. i think there was a FRQ thrown in too. i feel your pain.

just try to manage your time wisely, and if you maintain a 23 average, probably drop the class.

APUSH was my easiest class by far. But that was only because of the teacher. I either didn't go to class at all or slept through it. I had no tests and very few assignments. However, my other AP classes were very difficult.
I seriously did not know any material by the end of the year, took the day off before the AP, crammed an entire review book, and managed with a passing grade.
I feel bad for you.

My APUSH class was pretty easy as well. I always got 5-7 (out of 10) on our weekly essays and still managed to get an A. My teacher gave out a lot of extra credit (for things like donating cans and taking the PSAT). I crammed using the cram packet the week of the exam and somehow got a 4.

Most people have a D or an F, as of Friday when he sent us our class grade update.

I tried to copy and paste it, but it looks bad:

As you can see, mostly D's and F's with a few outliers.
If it's this bad after the first week, do you think administration may look at this and do something?

Live like nhcsgirl or TrinityStar (and that one's a freshman!) Problem solved.

Also, lol @ irony

I have no idea who nhcsgirl is, but TrinityStar has APUSH as her only honors class and she has no EC's, so all she does is go home and do APUSH.

But most of the normal people are failing, and the people getting A's and B's are not helpful to us. The teacher doesn't even teach; all he does is talk about mexican immigrants and tell aimless stories from his childhood, and expects us to go home and read 50 pgs. every night.

Will admin be ANY help!?!?!

Does your textbook have a website? Chances are, it'll have interactive things like quizzes, and maybe outlines. (Sometimes it's easier to read if you have an outline with the main ideas; you can read that first and print it out and take notes on it.)

I don't think the book has a website, but I do know that there is a site where you can download the book's APUSH powerpoints on to your own computer and type up notes to go with them, but I have had no success finding it.
The book has a bunch of quizzes in it, but they are really detailed and I'm admittedly too lazy to take them, because they're boring.

I'm surviving APUSH with a combination of AMSCO + REA + class notes + apnotes.net because I've found the textbook to be loaded with too much fluff.

My APUSH class sucked as well. Think I wrote 70 essays or so over the course of the year =/ (All of em were about 2-4 pages, single spaced, and about half were DBQ's), and I also had a ton of reading. However, the teacher was cool, and my junior year was easy other than that, so I escaped with an A (though I was the only one, and it took the teacher giving me 7 extra credit points :P).

TBH, I rdk why APUSH teachers have to be so hard. The exam itself is very easy - I read the a cram packet I found online - 40 pages or so and looked at past DBQs and Free Responses to do well on the essays. The MCs are relatively easy if you have been paying attention to most of what was said in class. All the work sounds pointless.

Wishwash, Its hillarious, I had the exact opposite experience as you with the political leanings of my teacher. I am a libertarian/conservative, and he was insanely liberal. In one of our essays, we had to compare barack obama (obama pre campaign, like, dec 2007) with abraham Lincoln, and give examples and stuff. he also defended the rosenthals.

How to get a 5 on the AP US exam:

1) Know how to write an essay/DBQ
2) Get the AMSCO book and memorize it the week before the test

It seems to me like a lot of what your teacher is doing is overkill. There's no need for you to be on the 1920's at this point. We were at the Civil War last year right around Thanksgiving. Really, APUS is just review of what you learned in 5th/8th grade, assuming you had decent history classes back then.

go to google and type 'ap us notes.' Find 'Invader's Realm bla bla bla.' It's one of the first few links. Has all the chapter summaries and is the best site ever for apush.

My class consisted of everyone coming in 15 minutes late with Chick-Fil-A and splitting up our homework assignments among 10 people and then emailing each other the answers. I also caught up on sleep, listened to the latest tunes, and finished all my English and chemistry homework. Needless to say I was the only one who ended up with a 5 in our class.

depends really..if its really that hard..transfer out..otherwise work something out by talking to your teacher.

My APUSH class sucks too. I mean, the teacher doesn't give out too much homework, like a section a night with a reading guide, but it is ALL up to us to learn most of the book material for friday tests, a chapter a week. O, and the semester final is worth 50% of our grade. Yet it is weighted. Right now I'm getting a weighted A-, but a UW B

get a review book or something...apush should b an easy class.

Well, if listening to your teacher doesn't work, then just study from the book while he's lecturing.
