APUSH online

Hi everyone!

I’m currently a sophomore in high school. I’m considering taking APUSH over the summer because the 2 teachers that teach it in my school are both bad. I’ve heard terrible things about both and was recently introduced to the possibility of taking an accredited online course.

I’d love to hear if you’ve had experience with taking online courses, the advantages/disadvantages and if there are any good programs that offer it. I’m currently looking at the John’s Hopkins CTY program, which is a 12-week session in the summer. Thanks so much!

Hmmm… this is tough. I am graduating a year early from high school (in two days!) and I had to take many classes online. However, APUSH was not one of them. My school is known to have one of the best teachers in the state and I can’t even imagine taking APUSH online due to the complexity of the content and reliance on lectures. However, it seems like you might be worse off with bad teachers. Make sure these claims are valid and also look into the passing rates of students in these classes on the exam; this should give you an indication. I found this from my counselor. Johns Hopkins seems to have a reputable program, but you should look into exactly how the program works in terms of pacing. Some of my classes had locked deadlines (more like real school) and did not allow working ahead, while others were more lenient. Ultimately, I think that online might be a better chance at passing the exam online than the bad teachers you describe. Good luck!
