I have a really tight schedule so far, and I just really can’t even contemplate taking APUSH. My AP Euro teacher wants me to take it and he says that colleges love to see this on transcripts, but my counselor said I’d be fine taking regular US History online over the summer. Any thoughts?

APUSH was one of the most rewarding classes I have ever taken. I worked hard for that A and learned a lot about study habits / test taking along the way.

I would highly recommend it. How good is “regular US History” going to look to colleges?

I would recommend APUSH too. It always looks good to colleges to see that you’re challenging yourself, which you will if you take this AP. Not only is APUSH fun to learn, but even if you end up with a bad teacher (like I did) if you study either the AMSCO or The Insider’s Complete Guide to AP US History: The Essential Content you’ll get a 5. I used the latter, read it one day before, and got just that! (I’m really in love with The Essential Content haha). Plus, you’ll be able to use your AP credit to get out of college classes.

tl;dr take apush

Agree with the above 2.

Do you guys think maybe I should self-study over taking it as a class or not worth it?

Much much better to take the class. It’s well worth it.

I doubt you will be able to teach yourself how to write DBQs and FRQs. A teacher’s instruction will be invaluable.

I’d say take the class. It is a lot of material, and reviewing information is a lot easier than learning it all on your own. Also, taking the AP class will boost your GPA.

@bojangles- I am currently in AP European History, and I took AP Human Geo freshman year, so I know how to do both.
