So my counselor came and talked to individual students today during their classes about AP US History. She informed us that we needed 15-20 people to sign up for the class, and only ten had and only six from our current AP World History. She said that I’d have two options unless she managed to convince enough people to enroll in the class. I could either take normal US History or take APUSH online via a program we have called APEX. I opted to take it online because I really want the AP credit. However, it’s basically a self-study course now and I’ve never done that before. I’d kind of like to give it a try, but I’m worried that it might be harder than I thought, especially since I’m taking to other AP classes. What do you guys think; should I go ahead and go through with it? There’s always the chance more people would sign up and we’d have an actual class, but if not I’m not sure.
How long do you have to know if more people will sign up? If APEX is partnered through your school, it shouldn’t have too early of a decision deadline. I’d find a way to take it regardless. It’s a great class.
@southernbelle16 We have until the end of the school year to see if more people will sign up. My counselor told me that she’s trying to convince more of my AP WH class to sign up. She said she thinks she scared people by saying APUSH was the hardest class offered at my school because it didn’t make sense for people who’d taken AP HG Freshman and AP WH Sophomore to not continue with the AP Histories. APEX is partnered with our school and it doesn’t really have a specific deadline because the classes on there have all the info stored in a database and it’s a “work at our own pace and be ready for the AP Exam” type class. I’ve heard it isn’t too strenuous, but I was just worried since APEX doesn’t have you write papers and I feel an actual teacher would be better. Regardless I’m still enrolling, teacher or not, I just wanted thoughts.
