Also, my teacher said the DBQ is going to come from the middle period (1790-1914), probably the gilded age or the progressives. Something socially related.

Without studying, how is your knowledge of US history, and how have you done throughout the course?

I’ve done okay. I’ve been maintaining a solid B average throughout the year, possibly going up to a B+ by the end of this marking period. I’m not overly worried about the multiple choice, it’s the essays that have me stressing. I’m going for a 4, but a 5 would be awesome. I also just took the US SAT II yesterday and thought it was pretty challenging but I feel like I might have just barely pulled off a 700.

Ohkay, that sounds fine. Has your teacher made any predictions, or have you done any mock exams?

I find that SATII American History is more fact driven than analysis driven, but if you think you got a 700, then you sound definitely capable of scoring a 4 or a 5. The only reason I asked is because I’ve been performing at 4-5 level all year, and I didn’t want to give you false hope about the exam.

[AP Pass - AP Us Calculator](AP U.S. History Test Score Calculator - AP Pass)

Check that site out, it helps you estimate your score. If you can pull off getting 65/80 MC correct, write an awesome DBQ (8) and scrape by with two 6s on the other FRQs, then you’re solidly in the middle of the 5 range. The calculator says it’s even possible to get a 5 with a 6 on the DBQ and a 2 and 3 on the FRQs if you get the MC score from above (this is really close to the cut off though).

I’d focus on areas you can really improve on, like MC, which is a lot easier than improving writing. The crash course book will really help, even in 2-3 days, as long as you’re diligent about studying and can retain info well. I’ve found it’s helped incredibly even from reading it the night before, like I mentioned earlier.

If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.

Thanks for all that helpful info. And yeah, you’re right about focusing on the MC. There’s no way I’ll be able to write a 8/9 DBQ. Realistically my essays will be 6/6/5 at best. 65/80 MC would be ideal. I think my SAT II MC was roughly 70/90 (based on the thread where everyone posted their answers) and that was without much studying.

Based on the site you posted, I can get a 60/80 MC and 5/5/5 on the essays and still get a 5, which is nice. I’ll probably order the book just because I feel my review book (5 steps to a 5) is pretty insufficient, and hope for the best!

Also I have a past multiple choice exam that I can use. I’ll probably take it tonight sometime.

Thanks again. :)

You’re welcome, good luck Friday! :)

Like, I don’t even remember the Gilded Age. Are we talking about Carnegie/Rockefeller/etc? CUZIKNOWTHATJUNK.

But DBQs don’t worry me /that/ much because they give us free info that will hopefully remind us of other stuff. It’s the other essays that I’m scared about.

ALSO - the prompts better spell out every paragraph that I need and not just be one sentence saying discuss the validity of this statement because I suck at formulating paragraphs.

BOSS TWEED. I used him in one of my SAT essays. That’s all I remember.

Yeah, I hate prompts that are like “Compare President X’s administration with President Y’s administration”. I didn’t learn stuff by administration, I learned it by time period.

I need this damn book.

What up Tuh-Weeed.

That calculator thing makes me feel so much better. I was confident in getting a 2 but now that it says you can get every MC wrong ang get 9/7/7/ and get a 3 I’m like say whattttttttt I should just stop studying.

Gilded Age is 1877-1900ish for those wondering :)

Lol anyone taking this exam on friday should know when the Gilded Age was.

Btw my estimated shipping date is 5/8/12, better be right.

CSIHSIS asked, so I thought I’d clarify. But you’re right haha, if you don’t know by now, you’re screwed xD

As long as you actually get it before the test, anywhere from 1-3 days, you should be fine.

Wth people. Why are yall studying so much for this one test? I remember taking It last year, just reading a book our teacher game us (some REA crash course, which I didn’t even finish) and the Barron’s cards. I didn’t have multiple books, looked at the dbqs, or anything of that. All I did was read my pageant book when I was told, did he aforementioned things, and took some quizzes online when I was that bored. Honestly, if you have to study this hard for ONE test, then you do not have master of the subject. This is why I have doubts regarding how smart CC members are vs how much they study. Oh, and I got a 5. Come on people, don’t make APs your life. I have 4 tests this year (macro, lit, calculus AB, and physics B) and I have yet to start studying. If you master it early, there is no need for all of this. However, I do hope that your countless hours of shaving away in front of books/the computer pay off and you get your 4s and 5s.

I’m only getting one book, which is the same one you used. And like I mentioned before, I’ve yet to start studying, and I don’t really plan on studying much for Physics B. I’m just gonna do a couple FRQ’s. Also 3 days of hard studying (it’s really not hard at all, i’m just gonna read that one book) isn’t exactly countless hours. It’s maybe 10 hours tops. I feel like I’m prepared well enough to get a 4 as it is, and I just want to be sure.

I don’t think it’s fair for you to pass such judgements regarding other people. I know that I’m a procrastinator and that I don’t study much, but I still pull 5s on my APs. I’m also smart enough to realize that how I do things doesn’t work for everyone. In fact, I applaud people who work harder than I do, because they legitimately earn their scores, when I’m lazy and still do as well or even better than they do. I scrape by on talent, while they have work ethics that will help them in life, just as much as having raw intelligence would. If people here ask for things that might help them do better, I’m not going to criticize them for it, quite the opposite. I think that if someone is going to make a conscious effort to do as well as possible, that person deserves to be offered the help that he or she asks for.

Sorry for the rant everyone, it’s just something I feel strongly about, because I dislike open displays of condescension; I try to not be elitist, even if some people would think I’m “allowed”, because it’s just a very narrow minded POV.

I’m pretty sure my test date is like the 26th, not Friday. Why?

The 26th? O_o

You might wanna double check that. AP exams will be long over by the 26th.

I wasn’t referring to everyone, just the ones that spend way too many hours of their time on studying. I was blessed with a great memory and intelligence, that’s for sure, but the amount of hours some people put are beyond reason. I just started to study for my calculus test about 10 mins ago, and it’ll probably be the only studying I do. Of course, I recognize Passion and a hard-work ethic, but be reasonable.

Not 26th, but some late day. My school registered everyone for the late day.

The only prep I did was read the God-awful Pageant book, cover-to-cover. I do not plan on passing, and I believe this class was a waste of my time because for getting a 4/5 I could only receive credit for what would be an elective which I would not have taken anyway. I also read flashcards, but on the essay I’m screwed. My teacher told me I can write very well…but if I don’t know the topic, then obviosly it will be horrible. I prob won’t even write the open-ended essay.

Waste of 3 hours. I could enjoy my morning. I could have an awesome time in my other classes. I hated the class, wish I never took it. Got a stupid B+ first sem, but that says nothing cause I don’t remember what we studied 1 month ago, let alone 9 months ago.

For example: Gilded age? What can I say about that? Scandals with Grant? Teapot Dome with…Harding? Grant, Grant…Credit Mobilier? See I don’t even remember…

Progressive era: reform. Prohibition. More state power? Populists? See how pathetic this is?

Sorry to be so negative.

Wonder what happens if we mess a time period up or something…FAIL mwahahahahahahaha!!! That’s what the graders are gonna say when thay read my essays…
