I need to do a 5-7 page research paper about a person, event, or idea that took place between the years 1945-2000. I was thinking of doing the Cold War. What is a possible/interesting topic question that I can answer in my research paper about the Cold War?

How the hell did you guys get that far that fast?

Maybe it's for NHD?

You could do the U2 plane incident... that might be a bit obvious, though...

there's all sorts of fun stuff for that era. You could look up a famous spy or discuss political protest in the 60s and 70s... flip through your history book and look for pictures or quotes that intrigue you.

Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Bomb. I know that it's probably not enough to write a 5-7 page paper, but imagine how fun that would be. Watching the film and then analyizing the political satire, and connecting it to the current events of the era.

Also, I find Red Scare very interesting, so something more neutral would be McCarthyism. Kinda a broad topic so you could find something in that. I also like more pre-Nixon cold war more interesting than later.

^^Love that movie.

um the vietnam war and protest movement, the civil rights movement, hippies, the rise and fall of liberalism, reagan, carter, jfk, the year 1969 alone? this seems like an easy, exciting paper.

Which topic do you guys like more? Also, how can I make the first question longer but with the same idea?

How can Hitler win WWII?

Was the Marshall Plan worth the price in preventing potential communist countries from rising?

What I would do if I were 1938 Hitler...Risky, but certainly interesting

I was wondering the same. My class is still on the Progressive Movement.

I'm currently writing my IB History Internal Assessment about how Yugoslavia maintained its independence from the Soviet Union between 1945 and 1980. It's a pretty interesting topic, although it'd be more manageable if I didn't have to write three-quarters of it tonight. Yeah procrastination! :D

Edit: I missed the bit about it being US history. Sorry about that.

My APUSH class is up to the Cold War. We are actually slow, since it's a two year APUSH course. I think I am going to write about the Marshall Plan:

Was the Marshall Plan worth the price in preventing potential communist countries from rising?

What are some good books I can use as a source for research? Any good history books (not textbooks)?

Titticut Follies. Watch the movie and then do some research - it'll be original all right.
