pre-pharmacy or chemistry w/ a possible double major in math. So if it seems odd why I'm here, on architecture, I like to read about majors even if i'm not going into it. Just so I can knowledgable :)

syracuse has just posted a new portfolio flyer with more advice and more samples. check it out here

i think they are implying that they like people with solid drawing skills with the pieces they've chosen to present~

cool attitude, celebrian25. in fact, i this is the only thread i post most often on. i've rarely been anywhere else on cc! little wonder i found cc when i was doing a search on architecture...btw, i really admire your cc status ;) don't think i'll ever be able to catch up till college begins, when we'll have little time or no time at all for dear old cc.

but i guess with solid academics, one also has a good chance...looking at those pieces, i guess i'll just focus on pencil chiaroscuro.

there are some books on pencil shadings with very similar drawings- still life compositions...also don't forget to include a drawing of a part of a room...in fact apart from a pf of 8-12 works [which is actually required only for the scholarships], washU specifies 4 freehand drawings be sent with the application - a drawing of a crumpled piece of paper, a drawing of the corner of a room, a pair of shoes, or something of the sort and a fourth one!

eeeghgh, i hate drawing! i think designing is *really worth the time you put into it. it's really hard to draw real life things "creatively", and even if i get inspiration i think the time spnt on the details could go somewhere else.

what's chiaroscruro? sorry i'm not good with terms!

chiaroscuro = light and shade; the study and application of tone/tonal gradation to achieve a striking effect.

ahhh....thanks
if arch. is still the main focus, i think you might be more staisfied with a concentrated program in the end.....bye!

I am an architecture major, i am taking the year off because i wasn't sure it was the right thing but more and more I can only image going back to school for architecture. anyway i was just wondering if anyone on this board new of any schools that had programs or even some faculty members that are invovled with the design of schools and other educational spaces? I have heard there are firms with this focus so i was wondering if its something that one gets invovled with after graduation or if its something you can study at either the undergrad or graduate level?

jrock, look at this document: http://www.icsd.k12.ny.us/highschool/studserv/CollegeProfile2004.pdf

thanks, bneg, that was some cool info, gives some idea about selectivity.

is posterboard another word for cardboard? i don't know if i'm gonna get pf binders with page sleeves and i'm wondering if i could print and spiral bind with paper or cardboard.

poster board. umm....i think some stores call it bristleboard. i'm not sure though, it's just a heavier paper, but it's still not cardboard. i think anything that is a bit heavier than regular paper is fine. i'm going to fold one in half, and from .5 inch of the fold i'm going to fold the other direction, and from .5 inch of those two folds i'll fold the other way, so i have one large crease with two small creases on the side. I'll put the sheets into the large crease, and staple all three creases together. then i'll use a piece of ribbon to cover up the staples....it's the easiest way i've found so far.

Did you notice that the SAT scores of professional arch. program acceptees generally have around 670 for SAT I? Wee~

figured something out: never *touch an image with microsoft photo editor, but if you open a file and DIRECTLY save in another format like png to jpeg, it doesn't mess with the resolution.

thanks, bneg. i'm wondering, but when i copied the pix to word, they were no changes. it was just as good but i copied them from photoimpression [.PSF]. I'll soon get pagemaker, however, im working on it in word, and if there's time, i'll transfer later. but i could just pdf it from word.

if i don't see the pf binders [cos RPI specified these, anyway i'm not applying], i'll print on card. wait, how do you measure paper thickness in Canada? do you use grams/sq. meters? the paper i'm going to use is about 180g/m^2. but, the heavier the paper, the more expensive the mail gets...

ooh, you're on! haven't seen you for a long time. i am finally finnished! well, the digital part anyway. word screws up my pics a lot; i will send you two samples to compare thru email later.

i don't know about weight; i actually have no idea. the poster board i'm talking about is just a very large sheet that is available in various colors. i will be using black.

i guess we'll have to pay alot anyway~ sigh. maybe we'll get more back!

by the way, when you get it, it won't look so bad because i added 15% contrast on both, but if you look at the small letters on the side it's quite evident that it's blurry, and i think that's already a 23 font

yeah, i've been off for a long, long while. in fact i've been awake all night completing my self-portrait. i have a serious back-ache cos i stood for over 4hrs. [i had to pray for strength]. but, i guess i've only got one or two more pieces to do. the more i do, the more i eliminate from the old one, and that can also justify my waiting another year...

it's okay, as long as it alright when it's printed. the evaluators understand the challenges encountered in actually producing the pf, and really, the original works are usually more stunning when viewed face to face. but of course, you could always tweak the image..

yikes, i can't....it's taking forever for yahoo. let me try another way~

wow, i never dared to challenge a self-portrait! i have to go to school in 5 minutes....sorry! i'll give you a PM if it does work. Even if it doesn't, i guess if it looks alright, it probably will be. bye!

you know, i just realized something.....it's taking forever for ONE pic to load!! aaarargh, how are we going to *** then?
