Are 2 SAT Subject Tests really enough?

Hey everyone, I'm new AND international so please forgive me my (probably stupid)question, but

Is it really enough to actually TAKE only two SAT Subject Tests if colleges only require the results of 2? I mean, doesn't it look like I wanted to reduce stress and work if I only take the 2 tests that are required? But then, taking e.g. 4 and they only want 2 is kind of strange, too. As you see, I'm REALLY not used to the US application process!

Hope you can help me with this. Thanks in advance ;-)

If they ask for 2, then 2 is enough. Believe what they say and you’ll be much happier.

I’d take three, just in case if you want to apply to any other extra colleges. Better ready than sorry. :)

If you take two they aren’t going to penalize you for taking two, especially if they are asking for two. That’s just silly. I read somewhere that (kind of obvious, but something to keep in mind) colleges/admissions aren’t looking for reasons to penalize you in your application.

Yeah you only need 2 unless you wanna apply to Georgetown or Harvard. A kid at my school took 4 subjects (all 700+) and another kid took only 2 subjects both 750+. Both applied to Brown. The latter got in.

A reason to take three at once is that you can maybe not perform your best on one of the tests, but still have two good scores. Whereas if you only take two, you must perform your best on both. But if you’re confident you can do well on those two, and the college only requires two, nothing will be held against you.

Agree with above poster… you can take three (or four if you are weird) to see which two you score the best in… but it depends on your major too, some schools want you to take math and science subject tests, especially if you are applying to a college of engineering

Take two, in your best subjects. Unless there is a posted requirement or recommendation for more by schools you are applying to there is no need to take more.

You said you’re international so I’ll assume you’re Asian… If you plan on taking a math subject test and a science one… I advise taking one more In history or something

The reason is that a lot of asian kids are extremely good at math and science… So the question for you is what can you do to make yourself unique?

If you’re not Asian, nevermind.
Good luck

Thanks for all those answers! That definitely helped! And no, I’m not Asian and the sciences are kind of my weak point ;-)
