Are 5 Subject Tests too many?

true dat ^

I know someone who did absolutely no prep for the World History, took it a year and half after he took the course, and got a 780. He knew the material somewhat, but he just really dominates multiple choice tests. He may not know the answer, but he can always tell which answers are wrong. It is, to a degree, dependent on how well you take tests. Obviously some people are more nervous during testing than others. Of course, one must know the material in order to do well. My point was that colleges would rather see an applicant manifest his mastery of a subject with an A in all of his courses than good scores on a bunch of SAT subject tests.

Yeah, really 3 is enough. Like I know MIT requires 2 (math + a science) and Harvard requires 3. So I would say just focus on 3.

The difference between a 750 and an 800 is a few questions, tops--sometimes there's just a bit of misfortune on test day, etc. For the PSATs this past year, I got one math question wrong and it decked me to a 76 (a very similar thing happened on the SAT I), yet I got an 800 on the SAT Math II--so it's not conclusive at all.

(And I apologize for the fallacy of (a) using myself as an example and then generalizing and (b) applying it in reverse--but it's the only thing that has come to mind.)

MIT reps have stated that they consider the difference nonexistent between a 750 and 800.

I'm not sure if this is relevant in this thread, but I'm wondering how necessary it is to take a science SAT II. I have four SAT II's already (Chinese, Lit, Math IIC, French) and am going into business/economics. Should I try to take a science SAT II (it is not a particularly strong subject for me)?

MJ_17 --- No.

So basically which ones you take doesn't really matter as long as you do well... is that it? So if I have 2 sciences and a math and I got 750+ scores there's no point taking another one in a different area?

I<3Pi,
Not necessarily for you , as you have no scores for any Humanaties courses- English, History. Unless you are applying to only a tech U, I would take at least the English LIt / or English Lang SAT II.

^ those are aps, not sats.

there is a literature sat though

like someone said, MIT requires 2 -- one science and one math. my math score is fine, but my chemistry is a 760. is that low for MIT though? since they'll probably get a bunch of perfect math/science scores.

i guess what i'm asking is how much do these tests matter? does a 760 compared to someone else's 800 play a huge role in whether you get into a school like MIT?

should i spend the time to retake chem, or should i spend this summer reading and planning my essays?

ye i'm torn right now on this as well. I kinda want to take advantage of the last october test date before the early round, even though i have a math, science, and humanities SATII. I'm wondering if getting another 750+ in say physics would help
