Are admissions into the individual schools separate??

For example, if you applied to Weinberg ED and another person already got into McCormick ED, could that person potentially take your spot? Or are admissions for Weinberg completely independent from the other schools??

No you apply to Northwestern, and “indicate” a school your interested in.

^^No. You apply and are accepted by school. If accepted, you are part of the school that admitted you. It’s pretty easy to switch schools though, with the exception of some competitive majors.

@fwet7295orhefd is correct, with the one exception being the Bienen School of Music, which has its own conservatory-style audition process and admissions.

I am still having trouble understanding this. The theatre major is capped at 100 students, doesn’t that make it intrinsically more difficult to enter than a department with a hypothetically unlimited number of seats to fill?

then in that case, are admissions rates into each school separate?

Other than certain specialty schools/programs like Music and Theatre (and maybe Medill), everybody is in one big pool. Definitely, Tech and CAS are.
