Will applying for financial aid decrease my chances of being accepted?

NYU is not need-blind. Only a handful of schools in the entire country are. Most schools are “need-aware.”

When I visited there, they said that they were need-blind.

I wouldn’t know for sure, but it makes sense that NYU is need blind. If you don’t meet much need, why does it make sense to consider financial need in admissions?

The NYU Abu Dhabi site very clearly states that it practices “need-blind” admissions. I could not find anything on the regular NYU site that made this statement! Or any reference to need-blind admissions anywhere else.

I thought needs-blind admissions was for colleges that promise to meet full demonstrated need of all applicants. Many colleges have said they are “need aware.”

Need-blind and meet-full-need are two different subjects, and few schools are both.

NYU is need-blind but doesn’t meet full need (i.e., NYU’s being need-blind doesn’t do many students any good; they can’t afford to go though admitted, and NYU figures this into their yield calculations).

Some schools are need-aware and meet full need of all admitted students; some are need-aware and don’t meet full need.

NYU Abu Dhabi is need-blind and meets full need. NYU NY is need-blind but doesn’t meet full need.
