So I’m an international student and I just got my NYU NetID and when I logged on it said they were awaiting my CSS profile… even though I don’t want to apply for financial aid! I then went back to Common App and saw that stupid ol’ me accidentally said ‘yes’ for financial aid!
What should I do? Should I email the admission / financial aid board? Will this reflect poorly on me since I made a mistake? I’m freaking out.
Email immediately. Your odds are probably higher for admission as a full pay international.
Isn’t NYU Need-blind?
^ Yes, so in theory there would be no difference, but awaiting expected info could cause a delay.
@CS_Parent , only for domestic applicants.
It is commonly said that NYU is need aware for internationals, but can anyone show where NYU says this?
If NYU were need blind for internationals, it would not mean that all internationals with money who meet admission requirements would automatically be admitted. NYU is a private school and can limit the number of admissions of any defined group (except, eg, by race).
@vonlost , I looked this up a while ago because I had actually thought NYU was need aware for everyone - and found that was for internationals only, while they are need blind for domestics. I do remember finding this somewhere on the NYU website but can’t remember where right now (one thing they can certainly do internet-wise is improve the ease of finding all relevant information in one spot) - I’ll try find it again later and post the link.
Thanks. It also seems like a moot point, not making any difference, since NYU doesn’t meet need of all students.
@vonlost , I totally haven’t been able to find the page I am sure I saw. The contention is backed up the Wikipedia article on needblind colleges, as well as a couple of newspaper, collegevine etc published articles (however much faith one might place in those sources) but as of now I can’t point explicitly to an NYU source.
As you say, being need-blind but not full-needs-met does make it moot for most applicants…however, possibly not for a borderline international applicant.
I did a search on nyu.edu and couldn’t find it either. Oh, well.
