<p>For next year do you think admit rates are going to drop? You would think that a 90% chance of rejection would scare some people off, but I guess not.</p>
<p>For instance, in 2005 Brown was 14.6% rate... but now it is like 7%.</p>
<p>Do you think the bar for admitted students is rising, or are you just getting kids spamming applications, and the quality really isn't improving much?</p>
<p>I don’t believe there are any <em>radical</em> changes in the quality of applicants/acceptees.</p>
<p>Rather, we’re in a looping pattern. Acceptance rates go down (initially driven to a large degree by international applicants), so students feel like they need to apply to even more colleges to have a chance of getting in to one, and inevitably get rejected from some, hence causing acceptance rates to go down even more…</p>
<p>It’s a rather vicious cycle, but hopefully there is a “saturation” point (I mean, we’re not going to see people applying to more than the entire top 20).</p>
